[Sparks - Thank God It's Not Christmas - 5:09 (1974)]
Feasts and holidays have always been a bore to me. Why should one be merry and celebrate on such and such dates and why not on others?
The carols, the crackers, the shopping, the shipping. The over-indulgence. All this is such a pain to me. If you'll excuse me, I'd rather go to Lapland and build myself a hut and hibernate while this racket goes on.
Let's see them.

  1. Wahiawa786 says Go to Lapland and dodge the Christmas season? Why not go South, instead? The Australian Summer will get you out of your Yule funk, where you can go on Walkabout, searching for "Mad Max" filming locations. Don't want to go that far away? Drop by Hawaii, where you can ponder improbables like flocked Christmas trees, Santa Claus on a surfboard, and electric icicles hanging from every other garage or house. Or, you can search for a United Church of Christ congregation that DOESN'T celebrate or recognize Christmas. (Or you could hook up with the Buddhists, who wait until the new year to take stock/celebrate life.)

  2. lilja88 says yes! we should celebrate each and every day, not just christmas and such...it might alleviate us of this crazy december shopping madness.

  3. scotfree says Love your "every day's a party" mantra. (oh, and love Sparks from the start) The major holidays are a major pain. While I'm roped into the traditional celebration by family obligation, I find these times to be much more stress prone. Give me a non-holiday Friday night anytime. Bravo your thread.

  4. lilja88 says I think this song epitomizes that wistfulness of wanting to run away to a place like Lapland to hibernate and escape all forms of civilization...

  5. dermahrk says Lapland. Isn't that where lap dances originated? If so, it might not be so quiet there.

  6. deadmandeadman says Exactly as Scotfree has expressed it. Lapland? Lap dances?> Only dermahrk would make _that_ connection.
