Who?
They're the freaking Rolling Stones, dude! One of the most important rock bands of all time, the Stones were officially formed in 1962, though frontman Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards didn't truly emerge as the bandleaders they are today for a couple years after the band's formation. The Rolling Stones, like the Beatles, spent the majority of the '60s and '70s dominating airwaves and creating some of the greatest songs of all time on classic albums like Beggars Banquet, Sticky Fingers, and Exile on Main St. As they continue to tour (and occasionally record new material), the band is revisiting Exile on Main St., widely considered their masterpiece, with a deluxe reissue.
And I Care Because?
- You already care. Even if you were a member of team Beatles, there's no way you don't care about the Stones. Exploring the bluesy, dark side of rock and roll, the Rolling Stones have come to influence rock music as a whole so much that there's no need for a band to even bother name checking them as an influence: when you're this important, you've influenced everyone in some way.
- We're thankful they're still here. With a lineup that's been astoundingly stable since the mid-70s, the Rolling Stones are one workhorse that refuses to give up after nearly half a century in the game. Still playing sold-out shows, still recording, they're one of few legacy bands that neither took time off or began to rest on their laurels.
- Exile as you've never heard it before. As you might have heard already, the Rolling Stones recently gave their 1972 landmark the deluxe treatment it deserves. It's not just remastering, though: a set of songs unearthed from the Exile sessions were salvaged for a new bonus disc, and they're a welcome addition to the Stones canon.
