After his release from DTP, Bobby Valentino has returned with his 3rd studio release, The Rebirth. The rebirth in the sense he is born into a new shell. Going the independent route on his label Blu Kolla Dreams through the distribution of EMI , he proves he can be more than just a pawn in the major scheme of labels.
The album isn't as fluid as the previous two, but he definitely has a few noteworthy hits sure to hit the airwaves soon. I'm a sucker for a nice beat accompanying some inviting lyrics, so therefore his job was accomplished with Beep. Releasing a nice club hit is what lures you in for the punchline, or does it?
Although his sound hasn't changed much, you can tell he's matured in some arenas, moreover in the relationship category on such tracks as Make You the Only One & Give Me Your Heart. Feeding into the male ego, his special woman of interest explores the idea of inviting another woman into the bedroom on 3 is the new 2. I'm a wild one, however, I'm not sure if I'm willing to venture over to the other side. Ladies let Mr. Valentino take you on that freaky ride, just be sure to fasten your seat belts!
He covers the ultimate Tony Toni Tone' classic Just Me and You with his own little twist, which seemingly falls short of the original. Needless to say the album didn't take me to new heights as most R&B albums, as I'm sure it will grow on me. I will congratulate him on the valiant effort, however, I hope he comes stronger on any forthcoming albums. His fans deserve it!
