It seems to be an odd twist of fate that I recently finished reading the 33 1/3 series on "In The Aeroplane Over the Sea" by Neutral Milk Hotel and immediately came to realize that it celebrated its 10 year Anniversary on February 10th. The story of Neutral Milk Hotel is not like that of many other popular bands. At what some would consider the starting point of a successful career, the main songwriter, Jeff Mangum, walked away into the shadows of a breakdown. There was no official band break-up. The music just ended. Since then, Mangum sightings and interviews have been rare, as he leads a very private, almost Salingeresque, life. What he did leave behind was a distinctive style of music that continues to astonish and inspire. Many bands have emulated Mangum’s sound but none with such merit or success. Mangum’s music is raw and emotional with shocking lyrical imagery that has solidified the band’s importance in contemporary alternative music. Anyway, Happy Belated Birthday to one of the finest albums ever released.

Definitely. Great album from start to finish. When you finnish it, you may be emotionally wiped like you were crying the whole time.
