Here's Stanley "Buckwheat" Dural Jr. and Warren Haynes on the title track for Buckwheat Zydeco's recently released "Lay Your Burden Down", (a Hayne's composition), these guys certainly get around. If only I was a musician maybe I could find some friends to play with too :)and as long as we're playing with friends the vid is Branford Marsalis playing with Warren and The Dead at the Izod Center 2...

Another Good Thing Came out of the Windy City Tuesday besides Obama

I spent a lot of today glued to the telly watching the inaugural festivities and monitoring the tweets on the puter, I have to say I was pretty impressed by it all.Let's just see if we can all live up to the challenge of turning this mess around, get us some peace and start spreading the wealth or what's left of it.Reminds me of that depression era axiom - "Use It Up. Wear It Out. Make It Do. a...

Filling the gaps on a wintry mix Sunday under the covers

Joe came out with this really good album chock full of covers last year, can't pick just one so this is one of many of the highlights, another song with some undertones I guess you could say, my apologies but I'm just in one of "those" moods, maybe it's the weather that's doing it.and the vid is the Marc Broussard version -

NPR will be broadcasting and streaming the Inauguration Concert this afternoon
9 months ago

Although the artist's lineup doesn't exactly meet my criterion I probably will be listening and or watching a fair portion of this today, what else could I be doing on a snowy sleety Sunday afternoon, besides napping of course...the little voice inside my head muttering something about cleaning house perhaps?from the NPR site -"NPR will be the only radio broadcaster of the concert "We Are One: ...

The song "Come Together" written primarily by John Lennon credited to Lennon/McCartney and covered by many. Not too funky perhaps but it's in the spirit of things going on around us this weekend and maybe ol' flattop is just funky enuf. The song's history began with Lennon writing a song for Timothy Leary's failed gubernatorial campaign in California against Ronald Reagan, one which promptly ende...

Happy Birthday Hal! (or troubleshooting the mog)

Thanks to Wired for pointing out that today is Hal's birthday, he would have been either 11 or 17 depending on whether you're going by the book or the movie. Here's a great version of Daisy Bell performed by Tin Hat that's at least as disturbing as the version used in the movie if not more so. An eerily haunting and lovely ballad. The Vid is 2001: Why Kubrick used "Daisy" for Hal's death addition...

Jeff, (deadmandeadman) put up a post earlier featuring a Bowie cover by Danny Michel, and after listening I wanted more. Thanks Jeff, itunes gets another 10 clams from me ;)Described as "Tom Waits...

Sunday under the covers - This one is better than caffeine

Pig in a Pen has been covered by more than a few notables not the least of which are The Stanley Brothers and Bill Monroe, and more recently by Railroad Earth and Yonder Mountain String Band but the credit for this fast moving ditty goes to "Traditional" unless anyone can prove me wrong. Traditional is responsible for writing more than a few songs in my library and countless other favorites I h...
