Luck of the Irish

"If you had the luck of the IrishYou'd be sorry and wish you were deadYou should have the luck of the IrishAnd you'd wish you was English instead!A thousand years of torture and hungerDrove the people away from their landA land full of beauty and wonderWas raped by the British brigands! Goddamn! Goddamn! If you could keep voices like flowersThere'd be shamrock all over the worldIf you could drink dreams like Irish streamsThen the world would be high as the mountain of mornIn the 'Pool they told us the storyHow the English divided the landOf the pain, the death and the gloryAnd the poets of auld EirelandIf we could make chains with the morning dewThe world would be like Galway BayLet's walk over rainbows like leprechaunsThe world would be one big Blarney stoneWhy the hell are the English there anyway? As they kill with God on their sideBlame it all on the kids the IRAAs the bastards commit genocide! Aye! Aye! Genocide! If you had the luck of the IrishYou'd be sorry and wish you was deadYou should have the luck of the IrishAnd you'd wish you was English instead!Yes you'd wish you was English instead!"Morrissey - Irish Blood, English Heart

  3. deadmandeadman says I just got in from shoveling the driveway so my wife could go to work. That song came up in my shuffle . 'If we could make chains with the morning dew The world would be like Galway Bay Let's hop over rainbows like Leprechauns The world will be one big Blarney Stone" WTF! Is there any Irish Buzzword/stereotype she missed? But its still a great song.

    Not Irish-American.

Morrisey's song is great, and I kind of feel what he's saying...I've heard it a million times

But I wish I could really know.

    That is all.
    Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!

  7. deadmandeadman says My grandfather's brother was hung in boston, from a lamppost, a note pinned to his chest said "irish go home". But like you, i'm more American than Irish. My French-Canadian mother had the brazen audacity to marry an irishman. They were shunned by many in the little town they settled in, folks knew a mixed marraige would never work. IGNORANCE ALWAYS HURTS.
