The song "Come Together" written primarily by John Lennon credited to Lennon/McCartney and covered by many.

Not too funky perhaps but it's in the spirit of things going on around us this weekend and maybe ol' flattop is just funky enuf.

The song's history began with Lennon writing a song for Timothy Leary's failed gubernatorial campaign in California against Ronald Reagan, one which promptly ended when Leary was sent to prison for possession of marijuana.

the vid is The Beatles (all four of them) playing Come Together.

"Come Together"...  OVER ME ! Ha! Perfect.

I hope the days of divisive politics are behind us now. Wouldn't that be something? That, right there, will be an accomplishment we can ALL participate in.

What I liked about Obama from day one is that he's asked us all to do just that....Come together...participate...and THAT would lead to positive change. It's so simple and effective. I can't wait for our new President to get in there and shake shit up. I hope we all help him out...and by doing so...help ourselves out.

We ARE the ones we've been waiting for.

.....divisive politics?.....hmmmmmm     good luck with that.  President-Elect Obama is the rope in a tug of war, on so many issues.

Come together, sure, and after this administration virtually anything will be considered an improvement, but will it be a success? Hope so.

Back to something I know a little more about: the line "Here come old flattop" is taken from Chuck Berry's "You Can't Catch Me," and the tune here is clearly derived from that. "You Can't Catch Me" was also covered by the Stones, and quoted from on a fairly regular basis by Bruce Springsteen ("New Jersey Turnpike in the wee wee hours" was used as a lyric; "Bye bye New Jersey I'm airborn" was used pretty often by Bruce at dramatic moments during live sets).

So as part of our coming together I intend to hail hail rock n roll and honor Chuck Berry and all our other forefathers who've made my life a damn sight better.
