Posted almost 5 years ago
Amoeba Records will release a major addition to Gram Parsons' discography with ‘Gram Parsons Archives Vol. 1: The Flying Burrito Brothers “Live” at the Avalon 1969’, due October 30th from the newly formed label. The two CD, 27-track set includes a number of never-before-heard (though long rumored) rarities.Gram Parsons, leading the Flying Burrito Brothers, opened for the Grateful Dead April 4, 5 and 6, 1969 at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco. The April 4th show has never been heard in any form. The bonus disc is the April 6th show. For years these tapes were rumored to exist and were finally unearthed in the Grateful Dead vault. The shows were recorded by the legendary sound engineer Bear (Owsley Stanley), and are the highest quality Gram Parsons live material available.Link to Amoeba for more details

  5. B42 says The Flying Burrito Brothers were always a must have/never tire of staple in everybody's collection, music that just works in every situation.

  6. deadmandeadman says I agree with Steve Simon, WOW. This is especially exciting as The Burrito Brothers were at the peak of their powers at this time. As a live performing band they were incredibly tight and the country/rock connection they always sought to illustrate seems so natural and organic when presented live.

  7. wassonii says I have to admit relative ignorance regarding Parsons until the last couple of years, but I completely understand the love of his music solo and with TFBB, having recently come across The International Submarine Unit as well as Burrito Deluxe. I'll have to borrow the Parson's box from my friend who got it when it came out, but at the time my ears weren't ready. Thank you very much for the heads up!

  9. wassonii says Hey man. I found this set credited as being at the Winterland, but with the same date as the Avalon. I believe that typical to "grey-area" releases, some info is bad. Here's a track from it that is listed as one of the previously unheard at the Amoeba site. Any thoughts? ~E9LEBQo7pYa.mp3~

  11. wassonii says "here":http://napusisemajmune.blogspot.com/2007/08/flying-burrito-bros-winterland-ballroom.html and according to the tracklisting on the amoeba site, this appears to be the 4/4 set. Fair to middlin quality, I can't wait for a proper release. Thanks again, monsieur, for keeping our heads full and hearts warm with all the great tunes and infos!

  13. B42 says The new layout at deadnet is kind of all over the place, lacking a sense of real community but it's coming together. Caution, even their documentation is messed up sometimes, remember the source, lol ;)
