WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Download Festival '07

Posted over 2 years ago
I'm getting excited for this years Download Festival at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountainview near San Jose, CA, since The Cure will be headlining and I've not seen them live yet. She Wants Revenge is playing as well. I'm sure all the little gothies will be out in force but I don't care, I'm going anyway! I went last year and had a blast! I won a Sansa MP3 Player among other stuff I picked up. Beck headlined & TV On The Radio, Muse, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Kinky, The Shins, Coheed & Cambria & a few other played. Tickets go on sale July 18th but the festival isn't until October 6th(six days after my b.day! Last year it was ON my b.day, so it was all for me I'm sure, heh!)Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, AFI, Kings Of Leon, Metric & 65 Days Of Static are also playing this year as well. BRMC should be great to see as well as Kings & Metric. Not into AFI too much & haven't even heard of 65 Days Of Static. Should prove to be a great show & I know there will be more groups announced closer to the show. I can't wait to go!!

  2. amber says I'm going to the Download Festival in Washington State in August but my show is totally different: I have Modest Mouse, Incubus, The Presidents of the United States of America, Nada Surf, The Thermals, Arthur and Yu, The Heavenly States, and Backdoor Slam. I've not heard of the last 3 but I LOVE PUSA, Nada Surf, and The Thermals!!! You went last year? How does this whole "access to the artist" thing work? Do they have meet and greets while other bands are playing? Enquiring minds wanna know! Enjoy yours..I'm jealous of BRMC. Very jealous actually.

  3. mktackabery says sounds fun August. Of course the best thing about going to these shows is making fun of, er, watching all the, I mean, um, admiring all the, uh, freaky people. LOL.

  4. Augusts1 says Wacky Libra? Why I oughta! Actually you must be a Libra too Britt. The wackiness only comes through in female Libras, hehe! Amber, I love Modest Mouse, The Thermals & PUSA, sounds like a pretty good show. Last year they didn't have that "access to the artist" thing so I don't know. Besides, I wouldn't want to wait around to meet an artist when I'd most likely miss another artist's show. Sis, I totally agree w/you. People watching is one of the most fun things to do apart from watching the bands play.

  5. amber says I agree with you: meeting the artists is all fine and good, but they are just people. However, put a guitar or mic in their hands....ah, that's what its all about! Just sing to me, baby....

  6. Rawkkiddoh says What a line up, and as for the cure you will not be disappointed. I have been lucky enough to catch them twice, both times I wished the concert wouldnt end

  7. Augusts1 says Amber, no doubt! Kev, you greedy bastard, you've been holding out on me! You've seen The Cure twice & I've not seen them once. But I have seen New Order back in their heyday & you haven't so there is justice, hehe! I'm so looking forward to seeing The Cure live! I have "The Cure In Orange" on vhs & "Trilogy" live in Berlin on dvd (and I think another one on dvd too) so I've seen them perform live but just not in person.

  9. Augusts1 says C'est la vie, hehe! Didn't you tell me you had several opportunities to see NO but didn't take them? Or am I recalling incorrectly?

  10. Jammy Jeff says Sounds like a good line up August. I've seen The Cure once on their "faith" tour in the early 80's at Birmingham Odeon. No support, just this weird film called "Carnage Visors" which was crap dressed as art. I'm sure they've improved as a live act over the years but back then they were one of the worst bands I remember seeing. Ofcourse now they have a much bigger back catalogue and Robert Smith isn't quite so depressed so I'm sure it will be a great show.

  11. Anna says Yo uncle A! What's shaking! My what a gorgeous line up! Enjoy! (I'm yelling too much, pardon me)

  12. Augusts1 says Success has a way of lightening up anyone who's seriously depressed Jeff. I've heard of that film, didn't The Cure do the music for it? The worst bands you've seen huh, wow, that's saying alot but that was a long time ago so, I highly doubt that they'd have lasted this long if they continually put on crappy shows. Yo Anna! Same ol' shit's shaking! You must've had a great vacation since you're yelling so much, lol. When are you gonna post about it? Welcome back dear.

  14. Augusts1 says Awwwwww poor Tripbro. Yea, when NO came to bumfuck Portland, OR back in the late '80s I was *stunned* when I first found out but boy I sure made my way to the box office as quickly as possible to get tix. Even then I still only got first level balcony seats! But it was an incredible show.

  17. chucky says No AFI love? His voice is an acquired taste:) Have fun!
    Permalink posted 06/24/2007
  18. Augusts1 says I like them but in small doses. That screaming does me in for anything longer than one song. AFI is from a small town called Ukiah about a 45 min. drive north of me. They haven't lived there for a long time though.

  19. chucky says Ah. I hated AFI when I first heard them and then one day, I really liked them. Can't explain it. :)

  23. chucky says ::shamefaced:: yes. But the good news is that I'm the head of all four guilds now. Haha.
    Permalink posted 06/26/2007
  24. Augusts1 says Hehehehe, I *KNEW* it! Glad you're having a good time being a pseudo guild leader. I miss you being here though @ = ( . I just can't compete w/a video game, le sigh. . . lol.

  25. chucky says Nonsense and poppycock. None of the NPCs hold a candle to you :P
    Permalink posted 06/27/2007
  26. Augusts1 says Awwww, shucks, thanx Ash. But if that were _really_ true then you'd be here far more than you play that game so, nice thought but let's be real here, lol! @ ; )
