The incomparable, Grammy winning Cassandra Wilson has a dreamy, sultry alto voice that just begs for you to listen to it. She's been around for quite some time with her first solo album coming out in '85.Ms. Wilson has made a career of interpreting cover songs, although she does write great original songs too. Cassandra has an ability to take another artist's song and _OWN_ it. Anyone who can take a song by the '60s group The Monkees and make it sound like she wrote it is an amazing talent indeed. She reinterprets songs from a diverse group of musicians such as U2 to Hoagy Carmichael.
Ms. Wilson won a Grammy for this album "New Moon Daughter" in '96. Here's a live version of the song "Death Letter" by Son House(which the recorded version is on this cd as well, not live though): She's an amazing vocalist!
