Ok JammyJeff, I Stand Corrected!

Posted almost 5 years ago
I really, really hate to eat crow but I have to say it: I'm liking Francis now. On my post about the English group It Bites I told JammyJeff that I didn't care for Francis Dunnery's solo work. But really, I have to admit, I hadn't given the cd I have of his a proper listen!Yesterday afternoon I saw a song title on his album "Man" that caught my attention, namely "The Ava Song", in my Windows Media Player & decided to give it a listen. Well, I was impressed by that song & each one following it but the song "Me And Franciene" I found especially great:Love the lyrics to the chorus:Nobody told us how hard it would beYou pay for all the good times But the problems are freeSo very true! Francis is really a great songwriter and guitarist as well. His turn with words is pretty amazing. There are so many great lyrics on this cd. And I received this cd free & probably because of that fact I gave it a superficial listen. It didn't catch my attention initially and I think at the time I had a bunch of cds to listen to that I thought were more interesting or at least caught my fancy immediately. This is one of those cds where upon repeated listens I hear more & more."I'm In Love"(the vid isn't synched up but it's a live cut):So, I must say I owe Francis & Jeff an apology for my hasty words. I should've known when you said you really liked Francis' songwriting Jeff, since you do have good taste in music. Lesson learned! Will post "The Ava Song" in the comments.http://www.francisdunnery.com/ad_page.htmhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francis_Dunnery

  2. Lizziegreeneyes says The Ava Song is about his little girl ... he's spectacularly brilliant live - seen him mucho times ... amazing banter in between songs ... he doesn't have a *bad* album in the lot ... not a one :) I am especially fond of Tall Blonde Helicopter ... But the album Man is also exceptional. JammyJeff is absolutely correct (glad you've come over to our side Augusts1) :) His lyrics truly exceptional, his guitar chops most impressive (especially live) & he's got one of the loveliest & kindest demeanors of any singer/songwriter I've had the pleasure of meeting :) Check out the song Sunshine & Too Much Saturn ... on TBH - Sunshine is one of my "nearly perfect" songs ... plus there are so many jewels on Man ...I'm in Love, Hold Out Your Heart, Wounding & Healing & of COURSE The Ava Song !!! Here's a fab video showing off his kooky goofy awesome side :)

  7. Augusts1 says Cool that your into him Lizzie. I bet he is great live, from the clips on Youtube I saw he looks like he'd be amazing live. I saw that vid you posted & it made me laugh, it's too funny! And yes, he seems like such a genuine & down to earth person. Cool that he wrote that song for his daughter too. Kev, he does far more than acoustic music, so don't peg him as a folk artist, lol. He really does deserve more Mog love. Tee, yea, his music does tend to lift ones mood. Go to Youtube, there are definitely more vids of his there. You can also click on his name at the top of my post to go to his artist lounge page to hear more of his songs.

  8. Jammy Jeff says hahaha. When you and I get to meet up next year you owe me a beer August, and I owe you a beer for introducing me to E's debut album (which arrived this morning). I guess we're even now. Beers all round (or wine because I know you'd be able to introduce a fine vintage)

  9. Augusts1 says Ok, it's a deal Jeff! Beer, wine, tequila, champagne, whatever works best at that time, lol!

  10. Lizziegreeneyes says teejaleo - drop me a line if you want to hear more ... really anyone should feel free ... I finally got my multiply account up & running & am beginning to learn the ropes ... I'd be happy to share some of his stuff with you - including the It Bites varietals ... Augusts1 - you are *SO* right, Francis should *NEVER* be boxed in, he needs to roam freely - acoustic, plugged in, humorous, straight-forward, sober, drunk - they guy is a total love !!! So Kevin ... we should talk about this one ... & Augusts - *promise* me you'll go to see him next time he's in town ... never a dissapointment :)

  11. Augusts1 says Lol, yes, I'd agree Lizzie! I will try to see him the next time he's near but I'm not gonna make a promise. I wonder if he's ever played the Harmony Festival in my town in the past? Seems like the perfect venue for him. He probably has but I didn't know who he was at the time. I need to post this cd on Multiply & will probably do that now. Glad you joined Lizzie. It's a great site!
