Moonbathing On Sleeping Leaves - Sky Cries Mary

Posted over 2 years ago
Sky Cries Mary is a Seattle band who put out their first album in 1989. The main band members are wife/husband team Lisa & Roderick Romano with an changing lineup over the years. Their brand of psychedelic tinged alternative rock infuses world beat influences as well. Lisa & Roderick do the bulk of the lead vocals & Lisa has an incredible, operatic, soaring voice that is gorgeous. Their voices harmonize nicely together. Here's a live clip at The Fenix, Seattle, WA,(the songs aren't from this album since their weren't any vids from this cd)"These Old Bones" & "Scapegoat":It looks like they put on a great live show! They have a new cd out called "Small Town" that you can hear at their myspace page link below. Pretty trippy, yet beautiful sounds.http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=22339692http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sky_Cries_Mary

  4. Lady Miss Ian says A Seattle friend o' mine was really into them. That first song you posted reminds me a little bit of (just in a big ol' vague way) of mellower version of L7's "Pretend We're Dead." At least at first listen.

  7. Augusts1 says Tripsis, they kinda grow on you after awhile I've found. Tripbro, I don't even know who to compare them to since they have a sound that is reminiscent of alot of '60s psychedilia bands but yet manage to have a completely unique sound. Their name is an homage to Jimi Hendrix which gives ya a clue to some of their influences. Lady MI, that's an interesting influence you came up with but I thought L7 was much rockier from what I'd heard of them. 54, yea they do sound very modern & have beautiful layering of their harmonic vocals yet there still is that touch of older rock influence there. FP, glad you like that song. Some artists can do the marriage & art thing together!

  8. Augusts1 says Apparently I messed up their names & can't figure out how to edit this old post. A major fan joined Mog to inform me of my error. Their real names are Anisa & Roderick Romero. Not sure how I got them incorrect. Oh well. Sorry to the band & to "mycarrion":http://mog.com/mycarrion .
