World Leader Pretend

Surprise! I'm actually posting about a group within THIS decade! Amazing I know. Have a listen:From Wiki: "World Leader Pretend is a five-person rock band from New Orleans, featuring Keith Ferguson (vocals/guitar/keyboards), Parker Hutchinson (keyboards), Matt Martin (guitar), Arthur Mintz (drums), and Alex Smith (bass). The band formed in 2002, and their name comes from the 5th track of the album Green by R.E.M..Their first album, Fit For Faded was released in 2003 on Renaissance Records, a New Orleans label. In 2004, they were signed to Warner Bros. Records. An appearance at the first annual CMJ Cleveland and other North American tour dates coincided with the June 28, 2005 release of their major label debut, Punches."Another of my fav music store $1.00 finds kids! Never heard of these guys prior to picking this up last year but the fact that their name is from an REM song title mixed w/the design of the cover got me curious. So glad I checked it out. I was listening to this non-stop for months. The songwriting is superb & they are all over the map as far as their sound is concerned. I can't even pin the influences(except for REM of course) since there are so many but they meld them into their own unique sound. Great great cd.
