YOU CAN'T NOT GET NO SATISFACTION

Summoning Of Dead Can Dance

Posted over 2 years ago
Ominous is the word that comes to mind when thinking of this song. Dead Can Dance are an incredible group even to this day. This song just struck me as I was listening to it, with it's sheer magnitude in aural delights. There's church bells chiming, a vast choir of gorgeous female voices, majestic horns, my goddess it causes me to envision amazing otherwordly vistas. It just blows my mind! I just recently acquired this album and am so enjoying it in all it's world goth beauty. I wish DCD would get back together and make more albums! Here is a video of "Sanvean" from the "Toward The Within" DVD. Lisa's voice is just incredible in it, I don't think she's even human, lol! She certainly doesn't look it. She could be an angel, a ghost or an alien as pale as she is. Love this DVD & DCD.

  1. dragonhead says I saw DCD on the very tour that that video is from. I taped the show, but the recording turned out to be useless as all you could hear was the sound of me sobbing with joy.

  2. mktackabery says Oh, a DCD fest can certainly be started today. I'm recuperatin from an insane trip to Tampa and this music fits perfectly. One of my favorites: The Carnival is Over:

  3. Augusts1 says Dragon, that is great you got to see DCD. I'd probably be a gibbering pile of emotions too if I ever got to see them live. I unfortunately didn't get into them until their last cd in '96 "Spiritchaser" but picked it up in '97 & they'd broken up shortly after in '98. Yes Michelle, DCD is very soothing, spiritual music, perfect for travel hangovers, lol! Love that vid. Here's another for "Yulunga" which was used in the movie "Baraka" in '92:

  5. Augusts1 says "Spiritchaser" isn't typical of their back catalog, so keep that in mind. Alot of their older music is based on reviving old/ancient songs, musical styles & instruments that have been forgotten or rarely used. "Spiritchaser" moved away from their modus operandi into more 'new age' territory. I started out w/their 'hits' collection(their 1st one in '94 or '95, since there is another one that came out in '05). Then got "Spiritchaser" which was my first proper album. Here's one of the very early vids "Frontier":
