SOUNDS OF FUTURE PAST AND PRESENT PERFECT

Here's Another Television Song

Posted over 2 years ago
I just can't tell you how much I love this band! Tom Verlaine's voice is just so fascinating to me, it kinda reminds me of Bowie's voice in quality w/it's quavering, tremelous timbre & depth. Of course, the guitar work is amazing as well as the songwriting too. It all adds up to some great listening. Here's another great song from their eponymously titled cd & is the first cut off the album.

  2. Rawkkiddoh says Another solid pick August, how many more of these do you have coming.

  3. Augusts1 says Well, I've posted 3 so far & there are 10 tracks on the cd, so 7 more. I may not post em all though. I should probably post the album on M. Have you listened to any of that XTC cd? No hurry, just curious if my ECMD tendencies are working, heh!

  4. Augusts1 says Glad you like it Ash. Still sound like The Cramps in slow mo?

  5. Rawkkiddoh says I have listened to it a few times, and it is growing on me. I usually give a new band a week before a final virdict.

  6. chucky says Haha...I so resisted the urge to say that. I think it's the vocals in this one. :)

  7. chucky says Heh - you're probably right - they probably did influence each other. I was thinking that Television was a new band, for some reason. That's pretty nifty.

  8. Augusts1 says Yea, it's pretty cool that they were contemporaries. But actually Lux & Poison met in Sacramento, CA in 1972 of all places, so they didn't make it to NYC till 1975. So initially they didn't influence each other until The Cramps got to NYC probably. Television's first cd "Marquee Moon" came out in 1977, released their 2nd cd in '78 then broke up. They did their self-titled comeback cd 'Television' in 1992, which was my intro. to them & is my fav. I'm having a TV fest right now, if you look at my page at recent songs played.

  9. Lord Helmet says Damn, nothing like MOG to make someone feel completely out of the loop musically. Doesn't help that I'm on here and still can't figure out how to get sound coming out of my computer... All these recommendations and no way to taste the tunes. Someday I will perhaps cross-over from 'random-MOGger' to 'music-MOGger', but that day is not today. Thus, what's the deal with airplane peanuts?...

  10. Augusts1 says Wow, that's a real bummer to not get sound out of your puter Helmet. That would drive me bonkers not being able to hear the songs posted. You are really missing out. What kind of puter is it? And what do you mean by "what's the deal w/airplane peanuts?"

  11. Lord Helmet says It's just laziness really. Sad but true. I moved a month ago and the DJ of my band still has my audio-interface so I haven't been able to get sound out yet. Pitiful; it is now on the docket of things to do SOON. "...airplane peanuts" = Seinfeld-esque random thought

  12. Augusts1 says Oh, ok, I understand Helmet. It's not like we all don't have a million things to do each & every day anyway, lol. No wonder I didn't understand the airplane peanuts thing, I'm not a Seinfeld fan(not that I haven't enjoyed shows I've watched), just not that into sitcoms generally.

  15. Dale says I have Marquee Moon, and I like them just fine. I sure as heck don't skip them when Winamp plays them in shuffle mode.
    Permalink posted 02/20/2007
  16. Augusts1 says Oh cool. Have you heard their entire self titled cd? I think it's far better than Marquee.

  17. Dale says Nope, sure haven't.

  22. Neill says I liked Television at the time and occasionally re-visit them, but never a month goes by without a bit of JD (27 years .....and counting.....) . ...and now let us pray; .
