Television- The Group That Inspired Many A Current Band

Artist:
I had heard about the group Television for years before I actually heard anything by them. They were always referred to as influential & legendary in any music press references that I read in music reviews of new groups. It was quite some time before I finally broke down & bought their eponymously titled cd "Television"('92). Boy what a revelation!I fell in love w/the amazing guitar work on this cd. The song "Call Mr. Lee" jumped out at me, which was the big hit off it. I listened to this alot. It created such a mood musically & the sound was so distinct. And Tom Verlaines voice is quite interesting. But it wasn't until the '00s that I became curious about their earlier work, since this was a 'comeback' album. I found 'Marquee Moon' through my music club catalogue. I was suprised they had but it was reissued w/extra tracks on it in '03, but originally released in '77. I wasn't as excited by this album as I was their '92 self titled cd. Mainly because Tom's songwriting skills weren't as honed as on the latter album. It's amazing though to listen to the debut 'Marquee Moon' & hearing where so many bands have come from in being influenced. The Strokes sound so much like old Television as well as Franz Ferdinand & many other Now Wave bands of the '00s. Also, I hear alot of PJ Harvey in Television's music. Here's a vid for their song 'Marquee Moon' off the same album. This is a great live version. Warning, it is a long vid! It's almost 10 minutes long so beware, but it is worth hearing/seeing.Once again I tried to find the vid for "Call Mr. Lee" but found nada on Youtube & I'm unable to upload an MP3 fully, so I apologize for the inconvenience. Here's another vid from their 2nd album called 'Adventure'. The song is called "Foxhole(Live)" from 1978.Here's more about the band on wiki below:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television_%28band%29
