WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Freaky Deaky Klaxons

Posted over 2 years ago
I was introduced to this band a few weeks back when another mogger posted about them but it was all in Spanish or Portuguese, I don't recall which. Fortunately, Klaxons are from England so the vids I could understand. I was particularly enthralled & disturbed by this video "Magick", which wiki sez is about Alistair Crowley, who for the uninitiated was a very well known English Occultist. This vid is pretty damn bizarre but fascinates me as well as the music:This song was released Oct. 30, 2006. Their debut cd "Myths Of The Near Future" was released Jan. 29, 2007. They are considered to be part of a music movement called "New Rave" coined by their recording label exec. Here is another vid to check out by them called "Atlantis to Interzone"(the vid quality SUCKS but the music quality does not, you get the gist):I am really digging these guys cause they are wildly energetic & kinda like a Red Hot Chili Peppers on speed. Whatever you want to call their music I just call it exciting and it's really new, cutting edge stuff! Just remember you heard it here first, although I heard it first from some latin girl who I don't even recall her name, lol! Thanks whoever you are! Here's the wiki on the group:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klaxons

  1. Anna says Snap! I've been wondering about them lately, you lil' mind e-reader you :) Both of those songs sounded *fantastic* to me. My first initial reaction after listening to them was to go and listen to "Primal Scream.":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primal_Scream That is in no way a bad thing :)

  2. dragonhead says Bought the album on a whim about an hour ago. Bloody marvellous it is. I actually heard a lot of early '80 gothy/new wave influences in there.

  3. Augusts1 says Lol Anna, I have powers far beyond mere mortals! Yea, Primal Scream is a great band to be an influence, I've enjoyed them in the past. Dragon, there is ALOT of '80s goth/new wave influences I agree, which I love. there's also some punk/funk/ & dance music influences in there as well. I'm planning on getting it myself as well. Glad you're enjoying it!

  5. Augusts1 says Kev, I hadn't either till just the past few weeks. They're really cool! Anna, you will be glad to hear that these guys have Muse as fans, who have gone to see them live numerous times. According to wiki Muse asked Klaxons to open for them at Wembley stadium & they turned Muse down initially but then decided later to do it. It's apparently happening later this month.

  8. fastnbulbous says I listened to their single "Gravity's Rainbow" a lot last year, and was looking forward to this. Before I heard the full album, I saw that The Guardian gave it a 2! Good grief. I went in with low expectations, and found myself listening to it about a dozen times in two days. There's a lot of great catchy songs. The issue I think is the reactionary scene/genre politics. They dared to jokingly refer to themselves as "New Rave" and suddenly pathetic losers who pine for their ecstasy-addled rave salad days pout that The Klaxons have nothing to do with rave. Well duh. They're just a pop band. But for my money, they beat the hell out of The Stone Roses. I do hear a bit of later Primal Scream influence too, which is nice.

  9. Augusts1 says It's too bad The Guardian is playing politics by giving it a 2. It's far, far better than that, maybe a 3 at least, lol. No really it is a great energy induced debut & I've been enjoying it! Fuck The Guardian!
