Wow, hard to believe it's been 5 years since I joined Mog as of tomorrow 1/9/12. It's been awhile since I posted here too but been using the mog player again over the past few days which helped me catch the fact that it's my anniversary. Really digging the player although I really miss all the peeps & posts. So much has changed over the 6 years I've been here but I don't want to dwell on that.
To celebrate, I'll tell you what I've been into lately(what else am I going to do, haha). Phantogram is an upstate NY band who I just love & they kick ass live. Saw them at Outside Lands Fest in San Francisco back in August with fellow mogger & good friend Annieander. They sounded amazing & put on a good show although they didn't move around much. They performed a couple of the new songs off their Nightlife ep which came out in October. Here's a live cut of 'Don't Move' at Bumbershoot Fest in Seattle this past fall:
Also been enjoying Death Grips, a local Bay Area rapper from Sacramento who's album 'Ex Military' melds lots of different styles & just rocks hard. Can't get the songs out of my head, they're that good. Bug On Your Lip reminded me of them but I first heard of them from Erykah Badu on Twitter 'cause she's cool like that! Here's the vid for the first track 'Beware' on the album:
Future Islands is another new discovery for me this last year. The Baltimore band's lead singer's voice reminds me so much of the '80s band ABCs lead singer. It took me awhile to get into his voice since it has a rather vulnerable, quavering quality to it but now I love them. Here's their vid for the song 'Before The Bridge' off their album 'On The Water':
Finally, I fell in love with this Brooklyn band High Places. Their album 'Original Colors' is sparse, angular & rythymic. So excellent & love the female singer's voice. Here's their vid for 'Altos Lugares':
So thanks Mog but especially to all you moggers who I've stayed in contact with over on Facebook who've really made Mog the place that it is! I've made some great friends with so many of you online & even some in real life too. Where will we be in another 6 years? Well here's to that musical adventure!

phantogram is killing it. you may think they are a bit boring on stage, but i could watch sarah jiggle about all day! ;P happy mogiversary aug old friend.
Thanks ya perv, lol! That is a great clip of them live. Actually Sarah is gorgeous & fun to watch, but of course, I prefer watching Josh myself. He's a hottie!
And ftr I didn't say they were boring, I said I wished they moved around on stage more. Trust me, I thoroughly enjoyed seeing them. Annie & I stayed at that same stage to see The Joy Formidable 1st, then Phantogram & then Foster The People who were incredibly energetic & talented as they switched playing their musical instruments with one another. What a fantastic afternoon lineup! Then we came back to that stage later for my girl Erykah who closed out the night. Such a great fest.
Great to hear from you again, Augusts!
And happy Mogiversary ! ;-)
Great sound and video clips you provide there. I can see why you are into them. I caught The Joy Formidable out at SXSW last year, and they blew me away.
Hey - be sure to check out what I've been up to lately as well:

Happy anniversary! Yes, we are in a different land than where we were 6 years ago. Indeed. I miss those people.
Thanks for the listening - Future islands was a real treat.
happy anniversary, man. i haven't been on this side of Mog for awhile either, although i miss it. the hit 'n run posts on the FB side were much quicker and easier while i was working in Oz.
good to be back and thanks for the videos!
Dave thx, glad you enjoyed the clips. Joy Formidable are pretty incredible live. Like I was telling Sam, I saw them at Outside Lands in SF last August. So so rockin' & they were fun to watch too. Love the lead singer she is just so kickass!
Jon, thx & very true we are in a different land. Glad you enjoy Future Islands. The whole album is just great.
Robin yvw & thx, yea FB is much more user friendly. Glad you are back & safe.
just look at her! a think shes having a seizure. a sexy seizure.
Yea, a very sexy seizure, haha. She is model gorgeous! I actually prefer Josh w/o his beard but I could easily get used to his bearded look since I do like furiness:
six? no way...you're right about how different it is now...
happy mogiversary!!
Yup, I joined 1/9/06 Ardy. Thx. Hope you are well!
Happy day August! Thanks for hipping us to some good stuff. I've had Phantogram on my ipod and couldn't find the right time to give them a shot. I'm definitely going to dial them up on the way to work tomorrow!
See ya around...
Hey John(or is it Brian?) thx & yvw! you are going to dig that Phantogram it's addictive. Check out the other bands too. Good to see you over here.
I did get through about half of Eyelid Movies and there is some good stuff on it so far. In particular I like the song "As Far As I Can See."
Yea that's a great song & that vid is very cool. Watch out the album will get it's hooks in ya. So glad I got to see them live last summer!
