Goodnight, Travel Well Killers!

Posted about 3 years ago

Over the past weekend I've listened to pretty much nothing else but The Killers 'Day And Age' album. I simply just can't get enough of it. I've tried to listen to other music but no, my brain has their new songs firmly embedded now into my psyche. And the odd thing is, I didn't think I'd fall in love with it to the point of obsession! Wtf! It seriously has caught my attention to the exclusion of everything else.

One track in particular has caught my attention due to the many influences I hear in it. The red button is The Killers song 'Goodnight, Travel Well' which really reminds me of this Bjork song off 'Selmasongs: Dancer In The Dark Original Movie Soundtrack':

It also reminds me of this amazing orchestral version of Interpol's 'Pioneer To The Falls':

Mogger Sam The Butcher(http://mog.com/SamTheButcher) in my previous post reviewing this album mentioned that the song reminds him of old school The Cure, which once he said it I heard that influence too. I also hear Depeche Mode, Joy Division and quite possibly Echo & The Bunnymen too. It's an impeccable song and quite different from anything they've done before.

Glad to see I'm not the only one up to his eyeballs in this album! I even listened to the new Bloc Party last night and I kept wanting it to be over so I could turn the new Killers back on. :)

Guess you and I missed a dream show of sorts on Sunday - the Cure & Killers at the KROQ Acoustic Christmas. :)

*Sam* yea, I did the same thing w/TV on the Radio's 'Dear Science', which surprised me cause I LUV that album too, but I'm just so hooked on Day & Age right now. That KROQ show would've been great! Btw, do you have the bonus tracks to this album, 'A Crippling Blow' & 'Forget About What I Said' ?

*Annie* glad it got under your skin!

*Sagaval* yvw, glad you enjoyed the dark beauty of it as well as the vids.

Yes, I have those tracks, too.

I'll check out the other songs when I get home...after I drive home listening to Day and Age again, of course. :)

someone's plain obsessed. ;p unfortunately, over-exposure of The Killers on this one TV channel i leave on for white noise has got me so intolerant of them. but i dig this track, so i'll give it a rest and try 'em again.

The first video is of Bjork in concert *Kev*. The Killers' red button song reminded me of it.

*ilay* sorry to hear The Killers were overplayed & got you turned off to them. I understand if you can't tolerate them much. Glad you're digging this song though. There might be some hope, lol.

Yeah, I meant to say the horn sound reminded me of the Cure, those synth horns Bob seems so fond of.

I could hear that in the horns of the two songs you posted.

And I lied. On the drive home I listened to some Osmonds, and then started in on Foreigner's "Cold As Ice" before I started on the phone calls. :)

The musical tastes run broad and deep, my friend. :)

Mostly early Osmonds w/Donny - Puppy Love, One Bad Apple, Go Away Little Girl...I'm a sucker for that stuff. I guess I'm just an 8 year old girl at heart. :D

I hear ya on the broad music tastes! I just had to give you some shit over those two, hehe. You might recall that I did a post a couple weeks ago on f'n Wayne Newton, haha, so I don't have room to talk. I have a few other musical skeletons in my closet

"I didn't think I'd fall in love with it to the point of obsession!" Love when that happens. My last LP love affair was Glasvegas's debut. Nothing else got a look in for a long time.
