WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Crying On The Radio

Posted about 1 year ago

I'm in lurve with TV On The Radio. Their new album 'Dear Science' is da shit! It's overall a far more upbeat affair than their previous album 'Return To Cookie Mountain', which I loved dearly. But that album was all over the map & quite quirky whereas this one is far more focused on traditional songwriting(or at least as close to traditional songwriting as TVOTR can get).

There are quite a few more danceable, positive sounding songs on this album and the song 'Crying' is one of my many favorites. The red button contains the original. And here to compare & contrast is a live version of it performed in San Diego 11/8/08:

I saw them back in '06 at the Download Festival & they sounded fantastic, but I must say they weren't all that interesting to watch. They didn't move around all that much, but I guess they put the emphasis on the music rather than making a spectacle.

Here's an interesting video TVOTR made to promote the new album. It's quite artistic:

I'm not a fan, but I'm interested in reading fans' reactions to this album, since it was quite different from their previous one. Good to see that yours, despite the embedded song's title, is a good one!

*Anna* glad to know you're keeping an open mind enough to check out the reactions of TVOR fans to this album. Kinda surprised you don't like them but to each their own as is said.

*Pat* glad you're digging it. It is their best I think too.

*Annie* haha, at least Stew knows a good thing when he hears it @;P. I knew I liked that guy! At least you can appreciate the music even if you're not apeshit over them!

I have heard some song's by this band but I'm not impressed.  There...  I said it August.  Actually I'm very confused about what makes you tick.  I think a mix is in order.  We should connect!!

Hehe you're confused? I've always been confused as to what makes YOU tick Sam with your ecclectic ass, hahahaha! And of course mileage may vary(as Mike The Knife so often says) w/TVOTR. I'm well aware they are not everyone's cup of tea so it's fine if you're not wild about them. But I think you might give 'em more of a chance & listen to a full album. You might see the light.

What is the mix gonna be that you're offering up? Yes let's connect. I'll have my people contact your people @=P

hmm. not sure how i feel about this. although when listening to it, i can taste brian eno and david byrne in the air.

Oh definitely an Eno & Byrne influence Sam! Hadn't thought of that but then again I hear a major Bowie influence of which Eno was a major contributor to his sound, now that I think of it. There's lots of Talking Heads influence in TVOTR's sound as well.

i know right! when i originally hit play i was listening to strange overtones...

They use those strange overtones quite a bit to their advantage throughout the album imo.

Dear Science has some good hits but it was quite drastic step, in my opinion, from their older albums. But they are still amazing, and your right about them live, completely different from i expected but exceptionally good music wise. I still can't get enough of Young Liars EP

Yea, it's definitely a more 'mainstream' album than their previous ones(or as mainstream as they can be). Thanks for the comment EmmaLu.
