OMG

An Apple Before Xmas

Posted about 1 year ago

Last night this song started playing on my computer & I was just astounded. I had heard it before but for some reason I was in the mood to truly appreciate it. Maybe the volume was a factor . . . .

Fiona does an amazing job covering this. I love her phrasing and Jon Brion's production. Of course, I love 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' and have to watch it every so often. Saw it in 3D recently on the big screen but wasn't too impressed since the film wasn't originally made for the 3D medium. It was cool to see it on the big screen but the 3D effect wasn't all that impressive.

And here's the scene this song correlates to in the movie(Catherine O'Hara does Sally's voice/singing in the film). Ignore the writing on the bottom of the vid:

Can't believe it's been 15 years since this came out!

Well, yea, it's animation, why wouldn't you love it Kev? I owned a VHS of it, then replaced it w/the dvd(since it had Burton's two early short films 'Vincent' & 'Frankenweenie' on it as well). So yea, I love it too.

just the other day a person at work was appalled at the fact that i didnt like 'nightmare before christmas' she asked why and i told her its because i was 6 years old when it came out and my parents took me to see it in the theater and it freaked the living SHAT outta me lol. however i have mixed feelings about fiona.

Well, I'd say  you have an excuse Sam! That's exactly what happened to me when my parents took me to a haunted house too early. I bet you're mixed about Fiona!

oh me, oh my. i don't think i'd ever heard this version by Fiona until your post, Aug, although i very well remember the song in Tim Burton's adaptation. Jon Brion rocks, of course; Fiona's penchant for projecting the "i feel the pain of the world" persona gets to me sometimes but she really is a mighty fine artist.

I saw the 3D version as well, and I agree with you. The movie is not 3D material.

Now this song I've never heard before till now. It's GREAT! I think that this is the first time I like Apple's voice on the whole.

    Nice one, uncle A!

*ilay* glad I could intro you to Fiona's version. Her pain of the world take on things can get old fast, I gotta listen to her in small bits but yes she is a fine artist.

*Anna* thanks, nice to know someone else has seen it in 3D & agrees w/me! Glad you enjoyed this even though you're not wild about her voice.

*Charley* yes, it has been awhile since she released an album. She did release an album on Itunes in '06 exclusively but it's mainly live previously release versions. Her last proper album was in  '05  w/Extraordinary  Machine.

too bad we can't listen to all music at the right volume all the time. mainly at work! :)

not big on FA but dang she has a voice! ...and she aint shabby on the eyes. ..how about her eyes? damn! they're like built in vacuum cleaners and suck you in. i'm helpless! save me! hey wait, don't.

    as for the movie. meh.

Agreed Mike. I used to not be big on Fiona but I acquired the original internet version of 'Extraordinary Machine' produced by Jon Brion, who I adore, & it won me over. Fiona reworked the album & used a different producer for some of the song & then officially released it in '05 but it's not as good.

Don't worry, I won't save you! Her eyes are mesmerizing! And such blasphemy, saying 'Nightmare' was meh, lol. Mileage will vary fo sho!

I've only recently gotten into her music as of this year so I'm appreciating her artistry even more. I'd think that being a piano person that you'd really be into it!

Santogold's self titled debut is great.

TV On The Radio's 'Dear Science' i've been grooving on, it's like nothing else out there.

Check out Duffy's 'Rockferry' too. A beautiful soul album.
