Have A Piece Of Pi
-
Artist:

Here's an old school slice of techno Pi to start your week. This is from the film 'Pi'(1998) which, if you haven't seen the movie, I'd highly recommend it. Darren Aronofsky directed it in black & white(who also did the incredible 'Requiem For A Dream' & 'The Fountain') and it's about a mathmetician who searches for a code to the secrets of life but he's not the only one who knows about it. Clint Mansell wrote this theme song for the film:
And here's the trailer for the film if you're interested in checking it out further:
It turns out that Clint Mansell has done the soundtracks for all of Aronofsky's movies. He's done quite a few other soundtracks too.

It's been a while sine I've seen this... might check it out again.
I would call this song drum n' bass, with a dash of trance and a whole lot of paranoia
Thanks for pointing out Mansell for me ... I have been trying to pay closer attention to soundtracks and how they are put together.
It's a brilliant film. 'Nuff said.
Clint Mansell did it well.
Thanks for the post, uncle A! :D
*Nick* yvw. It is a very drum 'n bass track, w/lots of paranoia. I actually own this movie(along w/Requiem) so I can watch it periodically.
*Anna* I totally agree, quite brilliant. Yvw niecey poo.
i forgot i saw Pi. i'm definitely going to need to see it again. Requiem should also make my 'see it again' list. it's been ages.
mansell is rad. he also did a few songs on the 'smokin aces' soundtrack. not as technoee though.
*Britt* it's definitely a movie you can see again & again as well as Requiem.
*Sam* so you are familiar w/Mansell already huh? I knew his work but didn't know him till I looked this up.
Man I had forgotten about this film, so great. With as much as I loved it, my roomate said it was a million times better after smoking a bowl
Here I thought people wouldn't know about the movie. Aren't most things better after smoking a bowl?
Mmmm. Pi is delicious. (The soundtrack was pretty tasty, too.)
Quite delish on both accounts Mike!
I recently discovered that you pronounce the letter π as "pie"...crazy, just crazy, the Greek says ;P
you of course know Pi is one of my super favorite movies, you darling. i heart Darren Aronofsky (although The Fountain seriously tried my loyalty more than Rachel Weisz did ;d) and i love the soundtrack. it was my introduction to Clint Mansell and is still one of his most wow for me. i loved finding this post today, yaaay, thanks.
*Anna* I suppose you weren't speaking English much back when this came out eh? It is pretty crazy, but then English is a pretty crazy language, no?
*ilay* I figured you were on board w/this movie. I heart Darren too & I LOVED The Fountain(when I finally got around to seeing it). I love Rachel Weisz too. I'm kinda surprised The Fountain tried your patience since you say you don't mind slowly paced films. To each their own though. The cinematography was incredible as well as the acting & the special effects.
I think Pi is an incredible film considering they made it for so little($60, 000.00 US), which is a supreme achievement in this day & age, although that was 10 years ago.
I have wanted to see this movie for a long time. I'm bumping it up to the top of my list!
Hi Dar! Glad I could help ya prioritize your movie list, lol! Good to see ya 'round these parts again.
ya, but havent seen pi though. i remember looking at it at the video store (back before dvds), so 98 sounds about right :)
I betcha you could get it through your library!
m'dear, i am enough of a fan that i will defend The Fountain to haters. you know, i love the concept, i love the direction, writing, cinematography, acting. i have a real problem with the execution. production design didn't do it for me and the particular style of Zen-ness didn't either. it is a high concept, the tree of life and everything, and how that was visualized fell short, IMO. even though i don't hate the film, i dislike it. but i can't wait for The Fighter.
Ilay, your avatar seriously is SO painful to look at, lol! I agree, The Fountain is a high concept & would be difficult for anyone to visualize on celluloid. I guess I didn't have any expectations, so when I finally saw it I was pleasantly surprised. Glad to hear he has a new one on the burner.
muahahah. it comes from Dario Argento's Terror at the Opera. i was quite young when i saw the movie and the imagery never left my mind. i mean, how could it...? needles!
ahhhh I see(literally)lol. What an image! I've never seen an Argento film. I must since I've heard about them for some time.
