E Day! New Erykah Badu Released!

So the day is FINALLY here when the anticipated follow up 'New Amerykah, Pt. 2: Return Of Ankh' is released! I have to admit I copped a leaked copy since I just couldn't wait further. And you know I was checking the blog search engines daily to see if it had leaked.
The album has really been worth the wait, it's that good. As dark and heavy as it's predecessor was, Ankh is the polar opposite. Erykah has said that Part 1 was the political side of her psyche, whereas Part 2 is about love and relationships. So it's much lighter in lyrical content as well as musically. As I'm sure you all know by now, I loved Part 1 with a passion. It was so unique and uncompromising, so much so that I expected even better things with Part 2. Erykah ventured into new territory on Part 1. But Part 2 in some respects harkens back to her debut 'Baduizm' without totally retreading the same ground. The first single 'Window Seat' actually does retread the same ground as the debut but manages to put a new angle on it nonetheless.

There are some great jams on this. Several of the songs are quite upbeat and sunny. 'Fall In Love(Your Funeral)' is one of them:
And there are definitely some different and unique songs on 'Ankh' as well:

Erykah continues to push the boundaries of what R & B is considered. I will be doing a more in depth review of the album down the road so stay tuned. Needless to say I'm as happy as a fan could be!

Um, the new Goldfrapp. Well, I gotta say I'm not too impressed w/it. It seems to be Goldfrapp for the mainstream imo. I like a few of the songs but it just seems like a serious play for world domination. I guess it was inevitable after 4 fantastic albums. Every artist ends up w/a less than stellar album in their catalogue I guess. What do you think of it?

Cody it didn't take as long as Part 1 took(5 yrs) but still longer than it was supposed to. Part 2 was to come out in July '08 which Erykah was documented on vid as saying when Part 1 came out. But then she got prego which took precedence, which I totatlly understand. Oh well, at least it's out now!

Mike, haha, clever! Of course they will, in fact most of her fans seem to be liking it far better than her last album from what I've seen.
I saw this had come out and thought of you right away. I am going to have to wait to listen to it when I get back to school next week. My sound card in my computer is dead, so no tunes to be heard on this end. I imagine how excited you must have been for this to come out and I am glad it did not disappoint!
You know I had to RUN onto MOG and see what you had to say about Ms. Badu!! I have to go out and BUY her CD. I don't like to buy mp3s of artists that I know I will play out forever and ever. Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm as always! xo
Kev, yea I seem to have acquired a reputation for being a Baduhead here on mog(& rightfully so) so most of my contacts think of me now when they hear of her, haha. Sorry to hear about the sound card, that's no fun!

i could not view the Window Seat video but "listened" to it in YouTube. it and Fall In Love (Your Funeral) are both deliciously trippy. Agitation is fascinating, i love it. i am especially excited that the album's somewhat close to Baduizm, and i will revisit the dark side someday for this. thanks, PL!
ilay, you have no idea just how much of a Baduhead I really am, haha. I'm definitely passionate about her music, that's for sure(some might even call it obsessive)!
Sorry to hear you couldn't see the vid. I wonder if it was blocked in your country due to it being controversial? It's just Erykah walking along a street in Dallas taking her clothes off gradually. She's nude for only the last minute of the vid but here the vid is fuzzed over her 'naughty bits'. There's alot more meaning to the vid, but you really have to see it. Hopefully you'll be able to see it on her official website.

Yup I am part of her Fancorps.com site which is solely to promote Erykah. And I'm actually the top member on that site(they have a point system you earn through various promotions completed). So yea I'm definitely into it!

Oh cool, glad you could see the vid & like it. Yea, it's amazing how people have gotten so up in arms over it. They had to put out a request to get someone who was there when Erykah stripped to say they were offended so they could file charges! No one had bothered to complain prior to the video coming out several weeks later. She was charged with disturbing the peace & fined $500.00.
Basically the Dallas PD were just making an example of her. Totally ridiculous! But Erykah has received a WHOLE bunch of free publicity over the song/vid/& album, so she has won in the end. Her album is #4 in the overall charts right now! Go Erykah!

Yea #4 is fantastic since she hasn't done that well in awhile. It's pretty quiet over on multi these days. I did load it up over there though for anyone who wants it here. Most everyone is over on FB, so if you decide to join at some point I can hook you up w/the mog gang!
