Close To You For Saint Knifey

Artist:
Words can not express my adoration of this DJ group from Melbourne, Australia and this album. It's the ultimate mashup album long before mashup's were popular! It's SOOOOOOO good! I had to post this since these guys sampled 'Stool Pidgeon' from Kid Creole & The Coconuts which Mike The Knife posted "*HERE*":http://mog.com/Mike_the_Knife/blog_post/175745#comments. The song didn't come through on my comment over there so I had to post it here.
The sample is from the first line of the chorus of the Kid Creole song & it's unmistakable. I love discovering samples in other songs. This one was driving me bonkers but I figured it out, thank goddess!

I saw these guys at Moby's Area 2 festival when they spun in the DJ tent in a extremely rare US performance. They were one of the first DJs up in the afternoon but they certainly worked us into a frenzy with their whacked out splice & mashings. I was dancing my ass off so hard, these guys just blew my mind live. They were INCREDIBLE! So glad I was able to see them live. And I made sure I got there early to see their set. So happy I did! They were all over the map with the songs they were spinning from top 40 dance to obscure ditties. A blast of a set!
And DAMN these guys for not releasing anything new since this cd in '01! What's up with that? Fuckin' slackers!!!

Love 'em, too! If you haven't seen this, you need to........: Possibly the best music video ever.
LOL! Got this album when it came out. Being Australian they will have spent all the money;
A) Getting Drunk
B) Pack packing around the world
C) Rooting
D) A, B & C
(Not that I would want to stereotype anyone....)
Mash it up again!;
But OF COURSE I've seen it darlin', but thankies anyway! And you my dear killer are nothing if not "*CONSISTENT*":http://mog.com/Anna/blog_post/47193#comments. @;P
Noice Neill, I'd seen there was a vid mashup of those two songs but hadn't watched it yet, so thanks for posting it! Great one!
I will only rest when EVERYBODY on this planet has seen this video....
That's fabulous...I'm surprised I haven't seen it before.
I need some aspirin....
Another group I have learned about in the last year, but not from mog...from a co-worker. I really liked what I heard and said the same thing as you..."What? Nothing since '01?". You would think they could be huge...nice sampling.
I've seen the video before Anna...so your work here, with me is done...check me off your list.
Just noticed...you are an early riser this morning.
Annie & Tara, excellent...rest can't be far away now! :)
Annie, "Just noticed...you are an early riser this morning." do you mean me?
(if not, feel free to ignore me)
I meant August...he is in my time zone...you, not so much in my zone...I figured you have been up for hours.
i was first exposed to them when my sis-in-law and her sister gave me a cd with frontier psychiatrist on it. it was the only song on the cd... and it was on there about 5 times. they said, 'sam, this is your theme song.' lol. its also how we ended the night on my 21st birthday when we were driving home from the bars. we got crazy crunk in that ride!
*Anna* you & you're killer instincts know no boudaries, sheesh! = P
*Tara* it certainly is a mind altering vid!
*Annie* wow, you have a cool co-worker. Glad you're already aware of these guys. They did release a remix album of the songs off "Since I Left You" called "When I Met You" which was released in '06 but it's super rare & it's outrageously "*EXPENSIVE*":http://www.amazon.com/When-I-Met-You-Avalanches/dp/B0002LU8KY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1217704687&sr=8-1 as an import. And I was burning the midnight oil as always! I'm a notorious night owl.
Sam that's a great story! Frontier was on that cd 5 times & the only one? That's freakin' funny! What a song to get drunk to . . . .
Emperor Augustus! That is so tha shizz. Always diggin' the Avalanches and their proto-mash cut-n-splice thang, even if (oddly enuff) this track fell through the cracks for me. (BTW, that piano figure on the coda is awfully familiar, too.)
the video anna posted is pretty dang crazy, i had never heard of them before. thanks for the intro august. i really enjoyed the tracks on this post.
Sweet post August! I've heard the name before for this dj group. I'll have to further investigate them. I hope to dance my ass off too someday to some incredible music like you described, hope to find it in the avalanches HAHAHA
Thanks!

Just in case it needs to be reiterated, all props to Anna for reposting the phenomenal "Frontier Psychiatrist" clip - and to Neill for the killa Cheekyboy a/v mash-up.
*Saint Knifey* I had a feeling you probably were familiar w/these guys. Seems little escapes you in the music world. The song is on the album so if you've listened to the entire cd, you've heard this before. And there are quite a few recognizable pieces of music in their songs since they sample the hell outta lots of tunes. The word is that they used around 3500 samples for the entire album!
*Marigold* yea it is a pretty freaky vid & makes no sense whatsoever but it's a hell of alot of fun. Glad I could intro you to them.
*Desiree* glad you enjoyed this, it's pretty infectious. I'm sure you'll experience something like I did soon, dancing your ass off, never to find it again, haha!
Yeah, great tune and album, was listening to this very song over the weekend (and the wonderfully nutty Frontier Psychiatrist!). Hope they get back to work soon.
Definitely great! There is a 2nd album in the works & has been for some time now. I can't wait to hear it when it's released!
