Had to post something on Sir Sage Francis. I found out about his free mixtape 'Sick Of Wasting' from Scotfree's post a week & a half ago. If you don't know anything about Sage then you owe yourself a listening & education.
Sage started out in the legendary rock band Wipers back in the late '70s in Portland, OR as guitarist Greg Sage. I was in the area & heard of them but wasn't into their sloppy punk style at the time. They lasted until the late '80s, breaking up & Greg moved to Arizona. There he started Zeno Records. He reunited Wipers again in '93, putting out 3 albums before disbanding in '99.
The man, the myth, the beard.
And as an extra added bonus, here's a vid for his song 'Got Up This Morning'(not on the free mixtape):
Here's his myspace page here.

cool. That "Sick of Wasting" set ( as posted right here on MOG) was my first exposure to Sage, and though it seemed there was a lot more to know, had not gotten round to it yet. Thanks for grabbing the ball and making the trick shot!
Yvw. It's taken me awhile to get on the Sage Francis train & you were the impetus for that happening Scott, so thx really to you. I've heard a bit of his rap stuff here & there but wasn't ever compelled to check out more. The song you posted was interesting enough to get me to check him out as well as the prospect of a free mixtape!
youre right, i didnt even see him on scots post. and damn am i regretting it! great beats, and beard jealous.
Yea it was pretty difficult to take all the tunes in so I'm not surprised you missed it Sam. Let's hear it for 2nd chances.
Went to edit & the post messed up badly for some reason. But at least the songs & important links are there.
good call august, never tire of this man
Thx Kev, I shoulda known you'd be up on him!
wow, free mixtape, huh? these are the times i feel sorry about having no internet at home. harumph.
i don't own any SF album but all mp3s i have, i like. i know Got Up This Morning but that first song up there is sick, yo. thanks, dear, you never disappoint!
It's a drag you don't have the capacity to download this. But when you do eventually just let me know & I'll upload it on the dark side for you.
All the songs are excellent on this, I know you'd really enjoy it.
Wow, August, this blows me away! It is so hard and fierce yet not gangsta. If only I had seen him on the spoken word scene when I was living in MA. Regrets, regrets. Downloading the free mix from SFRstore.com now!
Cool, glad you're digging him so much. He is a conscious rapper which I much prefer far more than that gangsta rap. Free is a very good price eh?
My knowledge of rap & hip hop is limited; until recently I said I only liked Canadian intellectual rappers (k-os, Kanaan, Cadence Weapon, Buck 65 etc.) and I am just barely discovering American alternative rap. Suggestions welcome! Right from the basics.
Have you checked out Q-tip? I've loaded up some on the dark side already. He's not too intellectual but he's more conscious. His shelved '02 album, now released in Sept. 'Kamaal The Abstract' is jazzy good(it's over yonder).
I did a post awhile back on Atmosphere, who's main rapper Slug is pretty conscious too. It's jammin' stuff. They released a free album too. Not sure if it's still available. If you can't find it on the web I can load it on the dark side.
Dar, here's my post on Atmosphere here.
