My Latest Pink Obsession

The Big Pink finally sunk in to my thick skull. It took posts from Neill, Marigold & Dachmo(last two, over on the dark side) to finally get me hooked. Marigold had posted a pre-album download which was less than stellar(not his fault, just what was available). Dachmo then posted the official album & the difference was incredible.
I was encouraged to give it another listen & chance by Dach, and being the fair minded person that I am, I did. So glad I did.
The unofficial album was composed of the released singles which didn't come off as a cohesive unit. The official had 5 new songs that replaced 5 on the unofficial. The result made all the difference to my ears! I'm HOOKED now on their shoegazy goodness. And it looks like they are pretty great live as well. Check out this clip of their song 'Dominoes' live, just posted today, at Manchester Academy:
Hopefully they will be playing at Coachella this coming year. That would be all kinds of awesome! But according to their myspace page they are coming to San Francisco Nov. 17th, so I might just catch them then. The button above is my fave song on the album called 'Frisk', so go ahead & push it. As most great albums go there usually are several excellent songs on the album that are as good or better than the singles and 'Frisk' is among them. So hopefully you all will get turned onto The Big Pink.
Oh, one of the songs on the unofficial album was a cover of The Cure's 'Lovesong' which was on The Cure tribute album 'Pictures Of You'. Give it a listen:
And thanks to Neill, Marigold & Dachmo for helping me get on board. Sometimes it takes a village. . . .

Agreed. I can't stop listening to this! Not that I have any interest in trying...I think "Crystal Visions" is my favorite though, mostly because there's nothing I love more than a good opener. eh, who am I kidding, they're all good.
dearie, i had no idea you took some time to warm up to them. from my very first listen from Neill's first post on 'em, i was hooked. (so much so they soundtracked my "goodbye" post.) i haven't heard the album at all, thanks for the heads up, my to-get list is getting longer and longer, argh.
ps- i couldn't be here to say it on time but happy you know what. (;
Oh yeah, I am fully on board with this album, racy artwork notwithstanding. Such bliss therein.
I'm still not fully on board... I don't know what's wrong, but I just can't seem to be interested. Maybe I should go see them live and see if sparks will fly.

I will have to investigate further and see where they fit on my ear's love-o-meter but racy album art? Google here I come! (sorry Dale)
Haha Amber. :)
Things are getting pretty serious when you use a picture of the band for your avatar!
.
Jules I had posted a comment in response to yours last night & it disappeared(damn Mog!). Crystal Visions is a great, epic album opener. They're all good though.
They remind me of the early '90s band Chapterhouse w/their shoegazy goodness.
Ilay how could you know, since you're on the other side of the world from me, haha. Of course you'd be hip to these guys. You must hear the new album, it's SO good. And thx for the happy you know what wishes!
Dale well, no surprise there!
Anna you probably haven't listened to the debut in full. Get thee to the dark side promptly & listen henceforth! You'll be glad you did. And glad I'm not the last one to get on board w/them, haha.
Dave good.
Amber well look who has commented on my post! Welcome back dear. Hope your trip was great. I think you'll enjoy these guys. The album & art is posted on the dark side btw.
Neill and look who else has commented on my post. The lost sheep has come back into the fold, haha. It is serious, thx for noticing.
ooh itsa good. thanks for yoru persistence!
ooo this is good, and they do look quite shnazzy live. i might look into a show if they come by.
Ardy I wouldn't call it persistence on my part, more like assistance was needed lol
Sam from what I've seen on their myspace they aren't coming to Seattle very soon. Surprised they didn't start on the west coast up there since they are in London, then going to SF on down the coastline, then to Denver & east.
ya i saw that. and man im digging dominos. it reminds me a lot of peter bjorn and john and weezer. i may be weird on that :)
Interesting comparisons. I haven't listened to too much PB&J but I have Weezer alot. I hadn't noticed a Weezer reminiscence. Fascinating how people hear different things in music isn't it?
Dominoes is their biggest hit so I'm not suprised you're enjoying it. It' quite catchy.
well i got it specifically from rivers cuomos solo. there is a track where he does a very similar thing with his voice 'good new-ew-ews good new-ew-ews!' idk. im weird.
Oh aiight. I haven't heard his solo album so probably why I didn't make the connection. And yes you are weird but who isn't? We all have our weirdities if you look long enough, haha!
