Mountain Battles IS Smokin'!

Posted about 1 year ago
2:57 mins.Diggin' the new The Breeders(leaked)album(to be released 3/28 in the UK, probably the 29th in the US). It's quite good & some really interesting songs on it. The uploaded song is a really sparse one. I think it's a tribute to the They Might Be Giants' remake "Istanbul(Not Constantinople)". Or maybe it's a tribute to The Four Lads original. Maybe it's a tribute to both. It's a fascinating song nonetheless, and so different from anything else they've done. And although this song isn't necessarily "smokin'" or a good represention of "Mountain Battles", the rest of the album rocks pretty steady. As The Dandy Warhols would say "It's as cool as Kim Deal". Word!I'm going to get to see The Breeders for the first time ever at Coachella this year, YAY! Can't wait.I'll probably get in trouble for posting a song not released yet but oh well, gotta do, you know? But hey, I'm promoting them by posting this, so you record execs/reps GET A GRIP wouldja? Fuck almighty, they just don't get it do they? I mean really, any promo is good promo!http://www.4ad.com/breeders/

  6. annieander says I came back to listen to this...as you commanded. I was having trouble earlier. But not now...the previous comment is correct haunting and ominous. Good call. But I'm not hearing the TMBG tribute / reference. Maybe I need more tea to help me wake up. I like it though.

  8. Augusts1 says *Ardy* haunting & ominous are great descriptors of this song, glad you liked it! *Annie* I didn't command you, haha. The TMBG tribute is more in the song title & the quirkiness of the track I think. I could imagine TMBG doing this in their inimitable style. *Helen* The Breeders is good shit @= P. Thanks dear!

  11. Augusts1 says It is some good shit Mike! And well you shouldn't accept anything less from Ms. Deal & co., heh. Hey Tripletta, glad you like the song & I'm sure you will love the rest of the album, if you really like this. But I'm far from being a Johnny Cash in the rebel dept.!

  12. Hermes says Never heard of The Breeders, what is no big deal, as I have no indie music. But I listened three times to the track, so I guess I like it somehow ;). Must listen to a bit more of them, as this is obviously non-typical as you said.

  13. TylerDurden says you, my friend, are against the grain -> unreleased???? not anymore! slightly creepy, but that just made me like it more! And what was that at the end of the song? DoubleDutch??

  14. Bartleby says My, that is indeed scorching. Thanks for sharing with us. - Now that it's 9th April, I'm sure Kim will not mind your making the song available for streaming.

  15. Augusts1 says *Hermes* & *Tyler* sorry for the delayed response on my part(you can thank Bartleby for bringing my attention to your comments when he posted his)! I read your comments after you wrote them but was going to come back & comment, deleted the email notif., then forgot! *Hermes* Kim Deal was in Pixies way back when & for their reunion tour a few years ago. While in Pixies she formed The Breeders w/Tanya Donnelly of Belly & Throwing Muses fame as a side project. Check out their artist lounge by clicking on their name at the top of my post. They had a huge hit in the early '90s w/a song called "Cannonball" here in the US. *Tyler* yea I'm such a trend setter, heh. The song does have a rather creepy & ominous sound to it, which is probably why I like it so much. What are you referring to about the double dutch at the end of the song? *Michael* it's great to have you back & commenting, much appreciated. And glad to share w/you & you enjoyed it. I'm sure Kim didn't care either date!

  16. TylerDurden says they just started flipping out toward the end, and it sounded like a bunch of kids screaming during double dutch in downtown baltimore...just being funny August, thought I was anyhoo. I definetely dig the creepy sounding stuff, helps me get to sleep at night, specially since i never quite grew out of the fear of monsters in the shadows at night, ever since I saw bigfoot (or what I'll swear was bigfoot) in my woods as a kid, always thought I saw his head outside my darkened windows at like 2:37 in the morning, Steven King time!

  17. Augusts1 says Ah ok gotcha, that is funny if I hadn't been clueless, haha! You saw bigfoot? That'd creep the hell outta me! SK time for sure . . . .

  18. Hermes says Just listened to "Cannonball" and, huh, what surprise. I know it. Was also known around heer, I guess, I've seen it back then on MTV, what means, more than a decade ago. I obviously just forgot the band afterwards ... shame on me.

  19. Augusts1 says haha, I had a feeling you'd probably know them once you heard "Cannonball". If you were into alt. rock at the time you couldn't escape it!
