The Fiery Furnaces have released their latest album back on 7/14/09 on Amazon.com with a wide release today 7/21/09. And what makes this even more exciting is the price on Amazon.com! Only $3.99!!!!! What a deal.(UPDATE 7/22: I just clicked on the following link and it's now $8.99, that didn't last long! Damnit, sorry gang. Glad I got it before it changed.) You can find it here:

Not sure how long it will be at that price so you better get it quickly!
On first listen, it seems to be more accessible/straighforward than previous efforts but still fairly quirky. They sound more rock this time around too. Check out the live vid below of the title track 'I'm Going Away'(at The Grog Shop, Cleveland Heights, OH, 7/8/09):
From this vid I noticed that Matthew isn't playing keyboards at all, just lead guitar. Maybe he plays keyboards at another time in this performance, I don't know. But it seems their emphasis is more lean, mean rock on the album as well as live which seems to be in keeping with how they were when I saw them live a year and a half ago in San Francisco. Also, on their live two disc album released last year was pretty no nonsense as well. Or as no nonsense as TFF can be.
There's a psychedelic vid on their website for the song 'The End Is Near'(it's the colorful rectangle at the top of the page. Play button is to the left. And a cautionary note: the vid could be seizure inducing due to the movement in it. It certainly has given me a bit of motion sickness, so be careful.)

Thanks for the "Heads Up"! That is an outstanding price! These guys are ALWAYS wirth a listen - at any price.
worth a listen also:-)
Yvw! Agreed, they are so creative and worth it. A few weeks ago I bought an older album from '05 of theirs and paid $1 more for it used than this but still a great deal.
Aargh, I wanted to buy a legal CD copy of their last studio album and it was so hard to find I ended up spending $17.99 for it!
Are you not able to access Amazon.com in Canada Dar? I know 'Remember' was a limited release so it's not a wonder you had difficulty.
damn, here I thought this was going to be a post about me

Hi August, if I order CDs from amazon.com I have to pay the US/Canada exchange rate plus the possibility of Canadian taxes and duties if it gets "noticed" by Customs. The amazon MP3 store cannot be accessed from Canada at all. So it's either pay up or pirate!
Kev, sorry to disappoint you, but it's ALWAYS about me on my blog! Thought you knew, heh.
Neill I listened to a broadcast yesterday on eastvillageradio.com that interviewed TFF & they performed a few songs as well. Seems they're making the rounds. Thx for the links.
Dar oh my, that sounds like a pain in the ass to deal with. So crazy that a mere invisible boundary can cause costs to rise dramatically!
I regret downloading this one, as I just wasn't in the mood for it and lost enthusiasm. Perhaps others will get me excited about it again and I'll wanna buy it.
I can understand that Fast. I have to be in the mood to listen to them. Then again, seems I've been more in the mood for them quite a bit since I saw them in concert.
Too, this album is a bit more sedate than their previous efforts(& being hailed by most critics I've read as being more accessible).
Hey, I heard that the girl Furnace is going out with the lead singer for Franz...hummmm?
That would be Eleanor. Yea, they've been together a few years now & have a place together in Brooklyn.
