WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Bloomin' Lou Rhodes

Posted about 1 year ago
Well, I'll be damned, Lou Rhodes went and released an album right under my nose last fall! October 1st, 2007 she released "Bloom" her second solo album. Here's the first single & video from it called "The Rain":Most of you probably won't know Lou Rhodes as a solo artist but some may know her from her previous group Lamb. Lamb was an electronic, dance oriented duo from England who didn't get much recognition over here in the states. I adored them and became hooked on their second cd "Fear Of Fours" in '99. After four albums they broke up in '05 and Lou and Andy Barlow parted ways to pursue their own artistic musical visions. And sadly, they never toured the U.S.Lou released her solo debut cd "Beloved One" which is a lovely, upbeat acoustic affair in Jan. of 2006. So I was surprised to find out through last.fm that she had a new cd out so quickly. The album is called "Bloom" and has yet to be released over here. Here is another cut from her cd "Greatness In A Speck Of Dust" live:Lou has a phenomenal voice that is just so interesting to listen to, I just love her. And Lamb is pretty damn great too!

  2. Augusts1 says I thought that animated figure looked more like a Koala or something, but I can see how it could look like an owl. But that's the Quay Brothers(at least it looks like the Quays style) for you, weird as hell but so cool. Glad you liked the song. Check out her artist lounge here on Mog for more of Lou's music.

  3. Lady Miss Ian says Lou does have such a beautiful voice. I think I had caught wind of her new disc coming out, but it got lost in my brain; buried by the tidal wave of new music information that came rolling through in 2007. I think you're right about that animation - looks very Quay-like. Melancholy, creepy and fascinating. Much like Lou's music. ;-) Cheers for the post.

  6. Bartleby says Lamb, owl, rain... all this reminds of "Altarwise by Owl-Light" by Dylan Thomas "First there was the lamb on knocking knees And three dead seasons on a climbing grave"

  7. Marigold says I am not sure if this is my thing. But enjoyed it none the less. Well written post August. It is funny how bands/artists we love sometimes fall under the radar and we check back in with them after and extended absence to find out they have been busy.

  8. Augusts1 says *LMI* Lou does have a gorgeous voice. I agree, there was so much new music out at the end of the year it was hard to remember who was releasing what! Glad you're a Lou fan! *Annie* I guess I'm outvoted, owl it is! Glad I could alert you to Lou & Lamb's talent. You will not be sorry! *Sam* yea this vid isn't as creepy as The Quay Brothers usual fair(if indeed it is them, but they've been around so long, I know there are lots of imitators). *Bartelby" not familiar w/that so I'll take your word for it & check out the link! How do you like Lou's music? *Mike* yea, I didn't expect this would be down your alley, but glad you still enjoyed it to a certain extent. There are so many things in life to attend to is it not a wonder bands fall under our radar?

  10. Augusts1 says Goddamn bugs! For the record, the vid is directed by an italian artist by the name of Leonardo who also did the stop motion artwork. Found this out on Lou Rhodes website.

  11. ciphermedia says Hey August, Love Lou Rhodes' voice as well. But I've got to say that musically, the work that she did with Lamb, and the couple of tracks she did on on the last Cinematic Orchestra album were more interesting musically to me than her first solo album, which I never really got into. Maybe I need to give it a few more spins.

  12. Augusts1 says Oh that's right you are a Lou Rhodes fan as well, I forgot! Yes, her solo cd is certainly different, more folk oriented than her work w/Lamb but I love it. At least her new cd is sounding more sonically full. I almost posted a vid of her singing in London w/Cinematic Orchestra. Wait, here it is:
