Apology To Gnarls

Posted about 4 years ago
I love my local library. Yea, I said it, what? I have been able to hear so much music & seen movies through them it's RIDICULOUS! I've been so surprised at what I've been able to find.So yesterday when I was there returning dvds I decided to check out the cds & much to my surprise, I found Gnarls Barkley's "St. Elsewhere" in the stacks so I brought it home. I started listening to it late this afternoon & GOOD GAWD ALMIGHTY IT'S GREAT! I've listened to this album nonstop three times through already! Here's one of my faves right here(forgive the amateur vid, it's all I could find on youtube for it):Now, trust me that I had listened to this in the cd store superficially, scanning the songs, so I'd heard them briefly. Of course I'd heard the catchy "Crazy" & liked it, but really didn't think it was all that. And there was so much hype about Gnarls which automatically shuts me down, lol. But once I heard the cd in it's entirety in the comfort of my home, I realized how many brill songs there are on this. There are so many far, far better songs on this than 'Crazy', like this one(which totally turns the trite hip hop vid on it's ear & is f'n hilarious!):So, Gnarls I apologize for my indifference, I was SO wrong! Am I forgiven?

  7. TroyPowers says So, now that makes me the only person in the civilized world who hasn't heard this cd.

  8. Augusts1 says Troy, I had no idea we were the two last remnants of civilization who hadn't heard this. Did I miss the memo? I'd have held out if I'd only known that we two were united in this cause. But now you need to join the rest of us! Come over to the dark side & have a listen, haha

  12. Augusts1 says Haha, yea when I first started listening/watching that vid I was a tad appalled but then it turned into sock puppet gangs & I started laughing hysterically. Too bad they didn't make the hoochie mamas sock puppets too!

  14. annieander says I have been hitting the library a lot too...Picked up some Hank Williams, Keali'i Reichel (Hawaiian Chant) & Babel Gilberto Remixed, all free might I add. There is oodles, left for me to explore...I am excited. And don't forget about books on CD's. Cool that you got such a surprise. I know how you feel about the hype machine, sometimes I shut down if there is to much ado.

  15. Marigold says Augustusness. do you think I do not come back to these *crazy* posts of yours? I see how it is. You come clean when Andrea calls your bluff. If it was me, you would have come up with some crazy hairbrain story of why you still won the bet. Thats cool. I am gonna just start posting random reggae songs in your older posts. HA! Take that. ...I am still afraid of Gnarls.

  16. Anna says I always thought that they had talent written all over them. Needless to say, I can no longer listen to Crazy, radio stations burned it for me; daft knobs! And this is why I'll be in hell level 3 and you'll be in hell level one.

  19. Bartleby says I bought the CD back then and re-sold it 3 weeks later. It just didn't work for me - A girl friend of mine played it recently at her birthday party and again the music didn't sparkle either. If I may, here's a medley cover by Mates of State (Like U Crazy/Crazy(Gnarls Barkley) which kicks in at around 2'05" - apologies for the very quality)

  20. Augusts1 says *Annie* the library is da shit! But it's not free, it's all paid for by our wonderful tax dollars, heh. And I've not gotten into books on cd. There's just something about listening to someone reading that puts me to sleep! *Lord* yup, that's how it is. The whipping post, remember? And random reggae songs on my posts, oh yeaaaaaaaa baybeeeeeee! You're AFRAID of Gnarls? Get thee to the dark side & have a listen. *Sexy Elf, er Anna*(haha) I ADORE anything Danger Mouse puts his touch on. But yea that 'Crazy' song got old fast. Nice to know there are better songs on the cd. And I'll wave to you from Level 1, heh(if indeed that's where I end up. I may be at a lower level than you but I'll still wave no matter what, heh)

  21. Augusts1 says *Dar* no surprise you haven't heard it yet considering your '07 list post & listening habits, haha! I know somewhere you could find it . . . . *Sam TA* Nice to know I'm not alone in my superficial assessment. The library is pretty incredible, I highly recommend it. It's not just for dorks, nerds & street people anymore(although I'd probably fit into the nerd category easily). I go to my libraries website & can lookup shit & reserve it there, then go pick it up when I get email notifs from them. *Bartleby* interesting that you bought the cd but didn't like it even when you reheard it. Mates Of State are a group that I really like but don't have any of their music. I've listened to several of their cds on Rhapsody when I was a member years ago. I must resolve that. Thanks for the vid.

  22. Marigold says Hey! I call the shots around here mister. I am afraid of them, I said it. I have seen it on the darkside. As you can see, I have not been there. I am truely afraid....

  23. Marigold says just so scared from the song Crazy. I am at the stage you were at prior to you going to the Library.
    Permalink posted 12/29/2007
  24. Augusts1 says Afraid of the Gnarls? Are you afraid that you will like them too much, is that it? I don't get it, clue me in oh Lord & master.

  25. Augusts1 says Ummm, alrighty then. But I was not scared of the song Crazy, just tired of it but liked it originally.
