WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Deep Inside You

3:36 Well gang, thank goddess the annual day to celebrate gross commercialism is finally OVER! Hallefuck'nlujah. After working at a winery for almost 9 years slinging wine over the phone, the 'hollowdays' as I like to call 'em, were the busiest since everyone wanted wine to give as gifts(we did custom labeling). But boy did it bring out the worst in folks!I really came to loathe the holidays. Imagine, starting the holiday season kickoff Sept. 1st every year & having to listen to f'ing xmas music at work for 4 months. And you all bitch about when the dept. stores start in after Halloween, ya wimps! So those 'wonderful' days have ruined any inclination that I had to celebrate the holidays. And I used to be WAY into it & still have tons of gorgeous xmas ornaments, albeit stored away. So maybe one day 'the xmas spirit' will find it's way back into my psyche but then again, the older I get the less reasons I find to be motivated to celebrate it. Sad I know, but when you don't believe any of that SHIT it gets pretty difficult to go to the trouble of putting up a tree & decorating. Call me a cynic ok?And here's what prompted me to write this post, a Rob Sheridan original xmas card I came across on another blog. If you don't know who Rob Sheridan is, he's the creative design force behind NIN. Yup, he's done many of the cd covers & artwork over the years for the sick, twisted vision of Mr. Reznor(hence the song). Check this image out:Rather sick, no? heh I LOVE IT!

  1. darmuzz says I was in an anti-holiday mood this year too, but not as well-justified as yours. Are you still in the wine business or have you changed professions? Thank you for burning this gift wrapping image in my brain.

  2. Bartleby says All right, I'm a wimp ;) I really like the card - it does make a point. People tend to mistake gifts for affection. Thanks for a most refreshing takes on the hollowdays.

  3. annieander says I dig the card...kinda sums up my whole feeling about the holidays. If I can only get my Mom to scale back on the obligations, I mean celebrations...thing wouldn't be so hard.

  4. bloodtea says Amen to that August. The only reason I celebrated Christmas this year was my dad - if he wasn't here I'd probably spend the eve in bed or partying my way. Xmas is just an excuse for people to get all nice to each other while pretending to be happy.. oh what a shame ::sigh:: anyway, next year I'll bring you a fine bottle of port wine and we'll celebrate our xmas ;-)

  6. Anna says I like the holidays; pretty lights! Hehe :) This year though the heavy atmosphere at our home didn't really let said spirit come through much, but whatcha gonna do? Love the card!

  8. Marigold says wow. what a damn grinch. I thought I was pretty bah humbugish. I aint got shit on you buddy. :) But this is exactly the reason you are the CMO. As a general scroogy kind of Christmas guy. I do enjoy the time with the family. If nothing else, it is an awesome reason for the extended family to get together at least once a year. I love the card. It puts things in perspective on the season. As for NIN. eh. never been a big fan.

  9. Augusts1 says *Darmuzz* I'm no longer in the wine biz & now doing in home health care. Glad I burned this image into your brain, heh *Bartleby* yes people tend to make that mistake & at least you're willing to admit you're a wimp @=P. *Annieander* it seems like the older generation are the ones who hold on tighter to the traditional 'obligations'. Old habits die hard(w/a vengeance!) I recall when I lived near my family, it just seemed nonstop. So glad I moved away!

  10. Augusts1 says *Andrea* I agree 100%. I did spend xmas day reading & watching movies in bed, which was GLO RI OUS(& I was by myself too, heh). Can't wait to drink that port w/you! *SamTB* it's right down your alley! *Anna* I like the lights alright, they are pretty cool. Sorry to hear things were heavy but I guess that's just how life goes sometimes. Knew you'd love the card! *Sam TA* gifts don't? wtf? *Mike* not a NIN fan? Who's the damn grinch now? I suppose family is what it's really all about & the card does make it's point valid. Being your CMO I have standards to uphold ya know?! heh Us minions *can't* be all cheery & bright fer chrissakes!

  11. chucky says Ah darlin. I worked in a grocery store, which is no where near as bad but I get the general sense of what you are saying. People get so fucking stressed that they are complete assholes this time of year. Somehow though, it's never ruined the magic for me. I have voluntarily listened to christmas music in my car to the exclusion of almost everything else for a few weeks now. I am also shamelessly materialistic, so I had alot of fun figuring out what to get people and imagining what I'd get from them. And, then the food. God bless the motherfucking food. I love food. I especially love holiday food. My post christmas wish for you is that you could feel everything I feel about the season. :)

  12. Augusts1 says Oh yea so you _know_ exactly what I'm talking about Charles. I do like figuring out what to get other people but since my family is up in WA/OR I then have to pack the items & send them off. Awww thanks for the post xmas wish, that's very sweet. Doubt it will happen though, hehe

  13. chucky says Two words: internet shopping. Make the retailer mail that shit. Does that bring you closer to the christmas spirit? ;P
    Permalink posted 12/27/2007
  14. Augusts1 says Well, the thing is my dear. I'm a big bargain shopper & I do my xmas shopping throughout the year so I save alot of money doing that. I bought my Dad two shirts for $3.99 each & he loved 'em. I've done internet shopping many times before though & it is extremely easy, that's for sure.

  15. chucky says Every year I tell myself I'll do that - shop throughout the year. But, as much as I like planning people's gifts, I equally despise shopping. The crush of humanity is too much for me. It only takes two or three people to invade my personal space and Michael is dragging me through the store going "hush" because I get all bristly. And by bristly I mean I turn into a flaming bitch. haha...

  16. Augusts1 says That sounds like a band name A Flaming Bitch! See, I do enjoy shopping & like to take my time doing it. I don't usually shop w/anyone cause I take so long! Friends get impatient when they shop w/me, heh. We'd never be able to go shopping together Ash, never ever!
    Permalink posted 12/27/2007
  17. chucky says Add to the imaginary band names list...:) And, no - you are absolutely right, we could never shop together. Haha. I lose all my good home training when it comes to shopping.

  18. Augusts1 says I wouldn't mind going along w/you though. I'd have to be totally at your beck & call cause I know you'd lose patience w/me, haha. I could definitely do that(& have).
