WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

The WORST JD Cover I've Ever Heard!

Posted over 2 years ago
Geeeezus F'n Christ! What is worse than one of your heroes going down in flames? Absolutely nothing. I guess EVERYONE thinks they need to get on the Joy Division train these days. Here's proof that not everyone should be getting on that train! Moby decided he's such a big fanboy that he NEEDED to do a cover of JD's "New Dawn Fades" & completely takes the balls out of it. Could this be anymore lifeless, flaccid & limp? Apparently Moby doesn't know what a HARD one is like anymore.Don't get me wrong, I love Moby but this just sucks a big one. So sad. I think this is WORSE than that pseudo emo group Fall Out Boy's JD cover they did a few months back & that's really saying something. Oh well, I guess Moby can't be as cool as say David Bowie, who can do no wrong.Thank you for playing Moby, you ARE the weakest link, buh bye! Here's the original:Thanks to DJ Ivi for posting this vid on her post:http://mog.com/dj_ivi/blog_post/124803#comments

  2. Augusts1 says LOL, doesn't it? I think it's dead & decaying really, heh. Time to put that one in the sepulchre!

  3. Girlcrawl says Have to agree with you on this one...Moby didn't have to go there! The musical arrangement was actually pleasant enough, but his vocals just do not convey any passion whatsoever. Humourously written Augusts1; enjoyed the chuckle. Cheers!

  4. Augusts1 says Thanks GC! Glad you enjoyed the humor. I agree the music was pleasant enough but that kinda defeats the point ya know? NO seminal power in it whatsoever as well as in his vocals! Quite soulless.

  5. Mike the Knife says Avast! After seeing that, I fear somebody might harpoon Moby, and he'll never spout again...

  6. Augusts1 says Aarrrr matey! Do you think Moby sounds like a seal, walrus or something, lol?

  9. bloodtea says _a loaded gun won't set you free_, man I bet one would be enough to silence this poor bald man.. Not everyone can pull out a card of the sleeve and make some magic happen. Well, I'm sure he'll think twice about covering JD... let's just say the guy *had* to make that tribute.

  11. Marigold says I didnt even have to hit play to know I would not like this. BUT, I am not a Moby fan in the first place. He has a certian nerdy creepiness to me. I could never get past the idea that if he was my friend he woud go thru my underware drawer if I was out of the room. That shit creeps me out.

  12. Augusts1 says *Blood* let's HOPE Moby will think twice. And I don't think he had to, he was just being self indulgent & trying to be trendy. *Meko* you have a gun handy? haahahaha *Mike* um, why do you think Moby would be interested in going through _your_ underwear drawer if he were your friend? That sounds more kinky than creepy to me, lol!

  15. fistula spume says It could've been worse. He could've been covering his own music! Hi-yo!

  16. Augusts1 says Hahaha, you ain't right Sam! I like Moby's music personally. I have all of his cds. To each their own though & all.

  17. fistula spume says I couldn't resist the opportunity. I like-ish Moby too. He does have the world record for most BPM's in a song.

  18. Augusts1 says Oh yea, he does. I read that somewhere, maybe on his wiki entry or an interview I don't recall.

  19. chucky says It's hard to judge because I've never heard the original. But, I'll say that if I didn't know it was Moby it wouldn't suck. I think Moby, just by the virtue of being Moby, comes off pussified.

  20. leftoverking says oh shit... thought you meant JOHN DENVER! phew.

  21. Augusts1 says Here's the original version Ash! LOK, I wouldn't be posting about John Denver, evah, lol!

  22. nordico says I find Moby moderately insufferable in general, BUT I gave him a 2 year amnesty period because of his PERFECT Bourne themes!!! So I've been giving him a listen with a new ear. Well, after hearing this, I needed 5 Q-tips to clean all the shit out of my new ears. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. And thank you for your consistently clever posts. Much appreciated!!

  23. Augusts1 says Nordico yvw & thank you for such a great compliment! I actually saw him live back on his Area 2 music festival when it came to the SF bay area back in '02 or '03. I loved his music before but seeing him live was incredible, he put on a very energetic, fun show & he was all over the stage, playing different instruments. I gained a major appreciation for his talent! I've seen a couple of the Bourne movies & knew he did the music. I guess the song isn't that bad(I just listened to it again) musically but his vocals just have no passion in them like Ian did in the original.

  24. annieander says To be fair to Moby, he did say "we're going to try to play one of their songs". Try, I guess, being the operative word. What would you use to clense your pallet of that turkey?
    Permalink posted 11/19/2007
  25. Augusts1 says True Annie, he did preface the song w/that statement. I cleansed my pallet w/some original Joy Division fo sho, lol!

  26. chucky says Ah, I see what you mean now.

  27. Maple says The above is awful, but have you heard his remix of "New Dawn Fades" that was on the "Heat" soundtrack...? Its pretty good...
