When Wilco Wins Out!

Posted over 4 years ago
Inspired by "*Dale's post*":http://mog.com/Dale/blog_post/123593I remembered I received a cell phone voicemail message upon turning it on yesterday morning from my dad. He had called to let me know how much he loved the Wilco cd "AM" I sent to him for his birthday! Yay! Success! I EMCDed my father, lol! Some of you might recall my post about my visit back in September to see my dad & stepmom "*here*":http://mog.com/Augusts1/blog_post/113273#comments. I had played my dad some of Wilco's new album "Sky Blue Sky" of which he seemed to enjoy. So I thought I'd start him out at the beginning of Wilco's career with "AM". I also sent him Lucinda Williams' "West" cd which he said he liked as well but not as much as Wilco!I had turned my dad onto John Hiatt a few years back so Wilco wasn't my first successful attempt at EMCDing my dad. He loves Hiatt. I guess I'm just excited to get my dad turned onto an even cooler group who I love. Baby steps, heh!

Btw, even though I have a cute little dead girl(Lenore)as my avatar I'm very much a guy. I just love me some Lenore though, hehe. *Anna* yes we fiends are very proud of our inbred EMCD ways, LOL! Thanks for noticing, ha!

  10. Oatmeal says He is a good guy. He came with my wife and I to see Wilco live a year ago. It was not such a stretch, he is not much older than me (22yrs.) and I learned about the Talking Heads, Clash, and other goodies at a young age from him.

  11. Augusts1 says I bet he is. Anyone who likes Talking Heads & Clash can't be too bad in my book. Plus he did a hell of a job raising his son!

  14. Augusts1 says Wow *Ash* I'm surprised you haven't EMCDed your parents. I recall one of your posts where you were hanging out listening to classic rock w/your Mom & bro, so I'm surprised you haven't turned them on to _something_. *Oat* yup, very true!

  15. Girlcrawl says Definitely recall that post; really glad the Wilco disk worked its magic, and 'baby steps' indeed - think it's fabulous that you EMCD'd your father. Keep up the good work, but then again the plan could backfire and he could end up having cooler musical taste than you - eek! :-) Cheers.

  16. Augusts1 says GC, I highly doubt that would happen. My dad is cool but would never get into anyone like The Fiery Furnaces, My Bloody Valentine, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, or The Cure. He's far too conservative so I know he'd just think those groups would be really weird sounding. I strive to listen to offbeat music, he has no interest in that, lol!

  17. Viva La Britt says Nice work, man! How cool to have music as something to bond over with the parental units.

  21. Sam The Artist says evil? cant we be nice? like a nice music crack dealer? "hey guys, want some crack?"
    Permalink posted 11/14/2007
  22. chucky says haha...NO! it can't be nice. Only an addict thinks the crack dealer is nice. ;)

  23. Augusts1 says Poor *Sam*, don't you feel so left out, lol? Here we're all talking about EMCDing & you don't even know what it means. Actually *Chucky* was the originator of the phrase when she crowned Dale with the title for turning her on to the group Mew. He got her hooked on a group she didn't think she'd like, haha! The phrase has just caught on, thank you very much Charles, hehe!

  24. chucky says I miss being called Charles. Isn't that totally strange? heh.
    Permalink posted 11/16/2007
  25. Augusts1 says No, not really, it's a pet name, so I understand since Chris always called you that. I'll call you Charles from now on if you'd like!
