Posted Uncle Tupelo's Anthology over on Multiply but wanted to post this great cover of an Iggy & The Stooges' song. Love this song so much & Farrar/Tweedy give it such an unusual spin. Gotta love it, yo!If you don't know, Uncle Tupelo were the band prior to Jay Farrar's band Son Volt & Jeff Tweedy's Wilco. Such a great band. They helped to establish the whole alternative country rock genre. Here's their wiki if you want to investigate further:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncle_Tupelo

Isn't it just like Tweedy & Farrar to find a way into that song for the shit-kicker crowd.
Who would have thought, back in the day, that the song would be covered by anybody?

Excellent August, one of my favorite bands and a truly unusual cover. It's a great example of how Farrar, Tweedy, et. al really brought an appreciation of bluegrass, country, and gospel-influenced music to the college rock crowd (and vice-versa, probably). When they started getting hot, I was just amazed to see so many kids at their shows, because I got into them for the sound, and it was so great to see college kids jamming to . . . banjos, mandolins, and Louvin Brothers tunes.
Great post August.
Queen, that was great - who is that???

*Deadman* yea they were some real rablerousers from what I've read in the liner notes of their Anthology album. I didn't even know this song existed when The Stooges first did.
*Max* it's hard not to like this.
*Helen* I recall you posting that vid before & I loved it. I really need to check out more of her music cause I really do like her. That vid certainly is, er, uh *buxom* for sure, lol. Thanks for posting it.
*Tripletta*thanks, they sure helped bridge the gap between rock & country. I didn't get into them until this decade after I got into Wilco, although I was aware of them. It took Wilco to get me curious about them. So glad I discovered them. I was one of those people who hated country but gradually discovered artists who were exceptional in the genre & who crossed the boundaries like kd lang, john hiatt who helped me realize it wasn't all twangy shit. You're fortunate to have been into them when they were together & got to see their shows. I'm green w/envy.
*Derma* I'm not much of a Stooges fan myself. I bought their classic "Funhouse" album mainly cause I kept reading critics referring to it in reviews & had to find out what was so great about it. When I did hear it I was seriously underwhelmed & I think I've only listened to it maybe twice. Overrated I think.
*Steve* I whole heartedly agree w/you about Wilco. I've seen a couple of live simulcasts of them in concert but no seen them in person yet but I was duly impressed w/their talent. I'll check out that post, thanks.
*Jameson* yea, what she said, heh.
*LGE* if you just go to my page on M you'll see it, silly, along w/King Missile.

Silly is as silly does ;) Figured it out after I asked... sometimes it takes a while - but the brain still fires up & works on occasion :)
