I’m a song person; the type of music listener who mainly just cares about the individual songs. I rarely buy a full album, b/c I prefer to just download the few songs that sound good to me (There tends to only be a few on each album). I normally could care less about learning who the Artist is, or what they're image is about. All I'm interested in is the song itself. There's this desperate need in me to constantly find new songs to satisfy my craving. I happened to stumble across a couple Joe Purdy songs a few years ago that I loved...then a couple months later I stumbled across a few more of his songs that I had to download on the spot...and the cycle continued. Now here I am, 2 or 3 years later, and I've probably downloaded 60%-70% of every song he's put out there. Looking back, this is a situation where it would have been worth it to just buy the full albums, and I don't doubt that at some point soon I'll end up doing that anyway. Needless to say, Joe Purdy is one of my favorite artists out there right now because there seems to be a constant faucet of amazing and beautiful songs flowing out of him. I don't know anything about him, so I can't say I'm a huge fan. But, each song I've bought has been well worth the .99 cents, and I might even end up buying them twice just to have the physical cds :) The only artist I can think of to compare his music to is David Gray, and I say that because his music is full of soul and always touches deeper than just my ears. There are the types of songs that just sound good in your head, and then there are the types of songs that flow past your ear drums and into deeper places. If you’re looking for those types of songs, definitely check out Joe Purdy’s music.
I just wanted this album to be represented on here somewhere. The Afters' most well known song up to this point is "Beautiful Love" which was the theme song to "8th and Ocean", and was featured on a couple movie soundtracks; but their new record is amazing, and hasn't gotten the recognition it deserves. It's rare to find an album where every single song is good, and this is one of those albums for me. It just has a great pop rock feel, and a good mixture of up beat songs combined with deeper heart-felt songs. It's full of great melodies and meaningful lyrics.

This song is really perfect for the temperature of our country right now. Derek's songs are always so thought provoking, and continually break down the walls of the box that my views often get stuck in. Not only is his latest album "The Ringing Bell" pleasing to the ears, but it's an experience that will get the wheels in your brain moving. This song, in particular really relates to the state of the U.S. right now with the election gearing up. I highly recommend listening to it, and every other song on his album!
