I shed a tear when I saw this:

Detroit's Beautiful, Horrible Decline

Two French photographers immortalize the remains of the motor city on film

Photographs by Yves Marchand and Romain Meffre.

And the photos NOT sold to Time but part of this shoot, can be found on their official site here.

Wow, I heard Detroit was in ruins but I had no idea. Thanks for the link, it's now a bookmark.

Those photos are haunting. Amazing to think that an entire skyscraper could go abandoned for 30 years.

I think this was on Beubien near Brush for years. In the 80's people were hoping someone would restore it but no one came forward. A lot of buildings have beeen saved but its almost impossible to save everything. There are some great stories of those buildings that were saved. One should not judge Detroit by the ones that aren't saved.I lived in Downtown Detroit when very few wanted to in the late 70's and ealy 80s but things did turn around  and the Fox Theatre was saved as one example.

I was checking out some aerial photos of Detroion Google Earth, and there are some blocks really near dowtown that are becoming almost pastureland again, after buildings burnt or were torn down, and grasses took back over.  Crazy...
