While there is probably a lot of witty and clever prose I could interject to review, herald or flat out hate this song, I won't. I adore this song and Ryan Adams. I don't believe I have ever heard another musician except for maybe David Ford that speaks so precisely the gamut of emotions involved in relationships. There are spaces where words fail to do the feelings justice.
The lyrics of a song are not that alone which makes the song. A song is remembered for how it makes us feel. For some of us, it is the lyrics and how they are written. For others, it is the turn of a musical phrase that can bring about tears as no other methodology short of banging your thumb with a hammer can deliver.
For almost all of the songs composed by Ryan Adams, there is some essence of this truth. It is more strong and superficially evident in some songs compared to others, yet in this particular song - if you cannot feel what is being stated then you perhaps haven't listened close enough or you simply dislike Ryan Adams and his music. Hey, that is OK. To each their own is what I have always said.
Let those who dislike this song move along, but for those like myself of which this song wraps around the heart and refuses to let go, even begging "please" as the title states - then I am apt to remain and feel the same pain and longing Ryan Adams must have felt composing this song.
Out of all this fluff and editorial scripture enlisted here, I have no grand observations. I just feel the song's message in every part of me: "please, do no let me go." I have spoken these words before in many ways, but in singing along with this song - they have never felt more true and more relevant than they are right now. After all, we all want something to hold on to and once we find it, we beg "please, do not let me go."

"If the walls in the room could talk
I wonder to myself, would they laugh..."
