MOG MOG

MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

Artist:
Track:
(99)

Considering how long I've been loving Madrugada (from 1999, to be exact), and that Sivert Høyem, their singer, is one of my favourite vocalists of all time, it took me a criminally long time to MOG about them. Since I saw monsieur Hoyem's unplugged show this Saturday and I shuddered oh so many times, this can no longer be postponed.

" Madrugada is a Norwegian rock band formed in the town of Stokmarknes 1995. The band members include Frode Jacobsen (bass) and Sivert Høyem (vocals). Robert Burås (guitar) was also a member of the band, until he died July 12 2007. Despite this tragic loss they continued with the release of the new album, since Burås' part was done before he died. The album, entitled Madrugada, was released on January 21st 2008".

Their latest single, Look Away Lucifer:

Thank you, Pekka! Never too late, I guess! :)

Know the name. Had it in my head that they where some sort of Scandinavian black metal band (burn the church!). From those tracks, sounds a bit like Nick Cave/ Tindersticks. Me likey!

Thanks Anna, And to think that I originally picked you as one of my fav moggers because Anna rhymed with banana. Sometimes accidents can give back pleasant results....well the bunny ears did help too.

Nice post. I love Madrugada and Høyem's rich barytone. I tried to upload "Electric" from album Industrial Silence but MOG is soooo sloooow. BTW, if you press ALT and type (on the numeral pad) 0229 at the same time, you'll get "å", and ALT+0248 will produce "ø".

He's got a fantastic voice, for sure. Really liked the new song. Seeing him play in an intimate venue would be the preferred option.

I love them. I have a crapload of stuff ont eh ipod and it keeps filling up so i have stuff constantly getting removed and new things added - add to that the things i have to listen to for work. But, having said that, there is a core group of albums that never leave the contraption, ever. Madrugada's The Deep End is among those.

So diggin' the twangy guitar and (yes) Cave-y vocals and madly dark tone of the words and melody. Thankfully, it ain't that dead-end fjord known as "black metal." Of course, when it comes to certain genres, YMMV...

Mike nailed my comment. Definitely a Cave sound to the song. Liking what I heard though.

You're welcome, Stefan. They are worth your time, for sure :)

Neill ahhahahhah I assure you, what you hear in this post, is what they are. I should post about a black metal band once tho, just to make you all wonder if I've lost my marbles :)

My pleasure, Scharppslicer :) Wearing bunny ears, eating bananas and listening to Madrugada is how I roll ;)

Good to hear you feel that way, brother. And it's wonderful how he can make his songs work, whether it's an electric or an unplugged performance :)

Blair, it could have been named Don't Look Away Anna ;) Agree with your Grant Lee Phillips point!

I'm so glad you fancy them, too, Rejean! Thank you for the info and for uploading Electric, another Madrugada song I love....

Mikey, I thought you might feel and enjoy them. Your description nails it! :) What is YMMV?

G, yes! I'm an Industrial Silence kind of gal myself, since it was the album that took my Madrugada virginity {sic}, and you know what they say about such circumstances :)

Mike, of course you do. It's your great taste in tunes ;)

It's the people I know who help my taste in music. Left to my own resources, I might still be listening to farm reports and classic rock. Not that there's anything wrong with classic rock, but I don't need anymore Freebird. :) I know you mean the other Mike, but I'll answer. YMMV = Your Mileage May Vary.

Indeed, Z. Varying mileage, as in: Your particular brand of auditory vehicle may get a lot more mileage, um...pleasure out of something than mine.

Sorry for not being able to respond well at the time. It was when I didn't have a connection of my own. Im sorry :(

Mike, bah! I tried to make many people in real life to listen to what I listen to and I failed miserably. You had the tendency, sharpness and affection towards it.

And thanks for that :)

Thank you, Mikey! I admit I had never heard that before :)

You're very welcome, poe! This voice has been haunting my life for years now; here's to more!

B and pimpy, thank you so much, you are the greatest grandest sweetest :)
