MUSIC CHATTER AND MATTER

More new Editors

Posted over 2 years ago
I'm basically tongue-tied, but I should enter 10 words of promotional copy, so: hadn't cried to a song in a long time."You fuse my broken bones, back together and then, lift the weight of the world from my shoulders again...every little piece in life, will add up to one, every little piece of your life, will mean something to someone...you touch my face, god whispers in my ear, there are tears in my eyes, love replaces fear"........I don't have many words for the new Editors album. It's just so emotionally charged that the notes are barely keeping it from exploding; I'm in love.Warm thanks & mad props to mutliply's prom king, Pop Savant.

  1. Anna says "In the end, all you can hope for, is the love you felt, to equal the pain you've gone through. Are your eyes showing off for mine? Your face in my hands is everything that I need".............

  2. chulsmith says digging the songs - i like the second one better. this guy is totally emo...

  3. Anna says You didn't just call Tom Smith "emo", did you? I don't live that far away from you, you know...

  4. chulsmith says i did. bring it on, aphrodite!

  5. Anna says *calling the Greek mafia*

  6. ciphermedia says Have heard of, but never heard Editors before. So i just had a quick look at a few previous posts, and yes, very JD & Echo/B-Men sounding. But I certainly don't hear Coldplay, who I fucking hate. These tracks sound excellent to me, and I'm sold just on the sound of his voice. Thanks M1ssy!

  7. Anna says Jonathan, I'm extremely pleased that you fancy their music! Yes! Another one succumbs to The Voice.... "M1ssy" nooooooo! ahahhahahahhahahha

  8. chulsmith says damn. the only thing worse than the italian mafia going medieval on my ass is the *greek* mafia going baklava-l on my ass!

  9. 1234chainsaw says I'm very, very happy to report that the rest of the album doesn't repeat the Coldplay-ish moments of "Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors." There are a few unnecessary synth swaths here and there, but overall the album is really getting to me. There's good use of piano, the drums pummel quite a bit, and the high-note guitars will rub your heart raw in a good way. There's more of mid-tempo song/fast song alternation than on The Back Room. Right now I'm thinking they do the fast better than the mid-tempo, but some of the mid-tempo songs (such as "The Weight Of The World") are quite breath-taking. On "Bones" Tom Smith ventures out to some uncharacteristically forward vocal phrasings that I like quite a bit. And oh yes, The Voice.

  10. Dale says Someone call for the Greek Mafia (Wichita chapter)? I couldn't dare post about this album, it's too darn good. I'm stunned. The Back Room was so good, but this really takes things to another level. The vocals are deeply emotional, without being hackneyed (or *emo*), and the introduction of piano to their sound adds a delicate touch.

  11. Rawkkiddoh says I started liking these guys when they covered the gorillaz anna, did you hear me they covered the gorillaz
    Permalink posted 05/25/2007
  12. 1234chainsaw says They covered R.E.M. and Stereolab to a better effect (but Talking Heads, not so well). (I admit I have no love for the Gorillaz though. Call me weird, but out of the whole clan of Blur-related stuff, I only like Graham Coxon's solo material.)

  13. Puffmagic says Gorillaz, eh? What song? I can barely imagine that. Anna, I do like this album a lot, look for the review later today.

  14. 1234chainsaw says Puffy: "Feel Good Inc."
    Permalink posted 05/25/2007
  15. Anna says Thank you, Puffy. I will upload the cover for you on multiply (Feel Good Inc.). Chul, be afraid, be very afraid, for we will drown you in syrup (there are much worse ways to go though). Thank you for putting it so eloquently, Pekka! I couldn't even try, I knew I would fail miserably...(The Voice, oh The Voice...) And you already know how I lurve those covers! I almost got drowned by emotions, too, bro (as you may have noticed). p.s. go get Chul! Kevin, I think you're confusing Gorillaz with TG, TB & TQ again ;)

  16. Rawkkiddoh says I know, and I realized it right after I posted my message, can you tell I am a little defensive about defending the Gorillaz? Seeing we had this exact same conversation before, I will go now

  18. Zamo says I saw them live in Coachella and they really impressed me. I really have high hopes for this album. Anna... you have to do the crossover to corporate magazines.

  21. guso says Love your BONES Anna, remind me how heavy is THE WEIGHT OF THE WORLD. His voice, is awesome, and he sound of the second one reminded me part of U2's Zooropa. Hopefully we can have this CD here in Mexico, like The Back Room, cuz I cannot still waiting to have this one. love live it. thx to u gal! .guSo

  22. SA says How about "Spiders"? "Hold out your hand, hold out your hand and I will carry you Hold out your hand, hold out your hand, come back to me" The album is darn ace. Took me one listen to get into it, but it's so powerful. Indeed, a lot more variation in the tempo of the songs, and I think that they will benefit from that in their live shows as well. Last song, Well Worn Hand, last words of the album even. "I don't want to go out on my own anymore. I can't face the night like I used to before. I'm so sorry for the things that they've done I'm so sorry about what we've all become " 6th of June I'm going to their concert, I might have to bring tissues.

  24. Lizziegreeneyes says Anna luv, How do I know this sound without _knowing_ it - & I listen to all the bands that have been mentioned above - I am SURE I know them from somewhere - not MOG & not _NOT_ them ... dang girl ... you've got me racking my brain & I'm coming up empty ... (gahead people - make the obligatory jokes now .... I'll wait .......... you finished) ? Great lyrics no doubt - but it's the layering of sounds & the guitars in the second track I am finding especially tastey !!! I love that kind of guitar - takes me back - way back ... maybe it's my girl Katerina - she has a tendency to send me some cool stuff (or mention great bands - she has a friend who is aparently quite the music junkie - though I haven't seen _his_ arse on here - so really, how much of a junkie could he be ??? Good times & tunes queen - from your "court" in Philadelphia ;)

  25. Lady Miss Ian says You're right Anna. Just let the songs speak for themselves. No need for excess words. I'm loving his voice on the cut you posted. That pseudo-baritone waver that penetrates just underneath your skin. I'll be picking this disc up shortly. Angsty British boys? Bring 'em on. ;-)

  26. Matthew James says i've never heard these guys before. for some reason i'm ashamed to say i like them. i don't know why, i just am. they shall herein be known as my guilty pleasure... thanks.

  27. Augusts1 says Anna, I'm drawn to them because there hasn't been any new Interpol for 3 years or more. Sorry to be the one to say it but The Editors are a far less interesting version of JD & Interpol. I'll wait & save my money for Interpol's newest. Lizzie, you *know* the voice & music cause they sound so much like Interpol it's amazing. I like The Editors but they are so capitalizing on Interpol's sound which is a take on Joy Division.

  28. Mike the Knife says Yo, Anna! (Sorry. I am originally from Philadelphia, so I come by the occasional Rocky-isms naturally.) Anyhow, I don't wanna seem too sheepish (and damn! late again!), but I agree with you, Pekka, Dale and Neill. I'm so pleased with this album, and it shouldn't be a shock since the previous one rocked me all over.

  29. mktackabery says I like even MORE and darn it Pekka, I do not get the coldplay thing, really. Stop it. please. okay, done ranting. Want it, want it, want it.

  30. Anna says Kevin, something tells me we will have this discussion many more times in the future ;) Neill, sleep is for pansies. His vocals at The Racing Rats are exquisitely intense. Bree, Flower and guso, you empower my Editors love. Kapranos bless you all... Zamo, I've seen them live as well and they were fantastic. I was taken aback. "Anna… you have to do the crossover to corporate magazines" I don't know what that means..I'm a bit embarrassed now :) Anyone who makes a joke about Lizzie is dealing with me (and I can be very violent if I want to, you know). Damn right, girl, you only constitute as a music junkie if you have a MOG page! Stefan, one listen was all I needed as well. Damn their lyrics are great... (oh have tissues with you, many tissues...) August, it's OK, no worries :) I like Intepol as well (shocking, I know haha), but Smith's voice eliminates Banks to my ears. Matthew James, be proud; be very proud and wave your Editors flag high (what do you mean you don't have one? give me your address and I'll send you one haha). Mikey, do feel free do get your Rocky-isms on :) You're never late! Indie parties are 24/7 events :) Lady Miss Ian, he has The Voice. He is The Voice. I do what The Voice tells me... "Angsty British boys" I think we should found and manager a band with that name! Michelle, I want to hear you say that you're game with this. Then we can proceed to casting.
