  9. Rawkkiddoh says I got to see him in concert twice, and is he came again I would not miss it. The first time I saw him I was expecting drum machines and keyboards, the whole live band thing took me off guard. Right now, Hotel has been getting a lot of listening time by me. I dont know what it is about the album, but it hits the spot.

  10. Anna says Lucky Kevin. He went all punk rock on us the first time, and drum machines - keyboards the other one. Not knowing what to expect can be fun :) Hotel is a very solid album. I think it is now a deeper need of mine to make a post on Monday & gather as many JD covers as possible. Thank you, Mike. There ya go:

  11. SatisfiedMind614 says Moby is brilliant..especially play. I love the way he took all of those old Gospel records and infused killer beats over them...a genius!

  12. Zeroskilz says LOL Those look good Anna! *reaching for a cookie* mmmm... Sweet cinnamon. I seen Moby and Dirty Vegas in concert a few years ago. Moby brought a full band; including a 3-piece strings section. It was a great show.

  14. Nixne Svix says Moby is a genious , but his little vegan "im just another puny human like you , look at me im such profound millionaire - i can relate to you from atop a gold mountain"act that just annoys the living fuck out of me. just once id hear that he was caught eating staek tar tar off of some big tittied blonde while smoking crack and listening to Carcasss and watching hard core feltching......you know he does that shit behind closed doors. great tunesmith though......

  15. Anna says Dead on, B. Hey! Leave some for me! That must have been a good show. Though the only DV song I know is Days Go By (but I really like it, it's so sad). Ah ye, Kevin! Hey, maybe we can do JD *and* NO covers on Monday..it will be pure MOGness! Cameron, I don't really follow these stories or the hype or image etc. I see where you're coming from though.

  17. cbowers says Here's my Moby story. I picked up Play after SPIN did a top 90 albums of the 90's because Play was the only album that year being featured on the list. I loved it and thought it was so different than anything I was used to hearing. Bought tickets to the Newport show here in C-Bus and it was one of the most phenomonal concerts I'd ever been to ('99). Moby has crazy energy and if the mood struck him he'd play the bongos one minute, keyboard the next, sing and rock both acou and electric. He's a really good guitarist - played solos from Free Bird, Eruption, and All Along the Watchtower. Joked with the audience, bassist about Zeppelin and urged everyone in Columbus, Ohio State to create a solution to ignorance & intolerance. 3 months later, Play took off in the US and was everywhere you looked. But I'll never forget the night he played to not-so packed club in Columbus, OH and changed the way I thought about music forever. I was lucky I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. How much were Area 1 tix?

  18. tybees says I love ??Play??, and I'm not even sure that I can pick a favorite track. It was, I believe, my day 3 submission for the MOG 501. Never could get into anything pre or post though, I think he hit upon a great idea with ??Play?? and ran with it, and the results were outstanding. This CD lived in my car stereo for months, and anyone who rode with me loved it.

  19. mutterimieli says I like Moby but when I watched him on the 2 MTV Cribs episodes i just wanted to run around his house and toss around some chachkies.

  20. ebuzzmiller says Moby is just such an overexposed cliche at this point, the only way i could like him again is if his head oozed anti-perspirant, so i could lift him up and roll on his smooth head under my armpit after I work out. That is, unless, they could genetically engineer a roll-on deodorant that could also play twinkly ambient music with old blues samples, to use in Volkswagon commercials.

  21. Anna says Aw, cb, that's a great story.. :) Ty, "This CD lived in my car stereo for months, and anyone who rode with me loved it", you didn't really give them a choice, did you? ;) That's exactly how it should be done! Jill, sorry, I don't understand, what does that mean? :) My dogg, come on, don't be shy, why don't you tell us how you *really* feel? ;)

  23. mutterimieli says hehe, he's a minimalist Anna, his flat and his house are barely furnished and there are no colors or decorations. Very very plain. Chachkis are knick knacks, just to liven up the place a bit.

  24. Augusts1 says Being a LONG time Moby fan I really have to say that 'Play' is my LEAST fav of his cds. Sure it's innovative but it got so overexposed. I first got into him on his "Everything Is Wrong" cd in 1995. I think it's his best cause he's all over the map on it & every song is great. Here's a live cut called "Feeling So Real" from that cd: The vid quality isn't so great but the sound is, but you get an idea of what he's like in concert! I saw him at the Area 2 concert(2nd year) w/David Bowie(who was amazing) & I was shocked at how great Moby was. He was running all over the stage playing various instruments & singing & really entertaining the crowd. (Bowie said during his set that Moby insisted on him to be the headliner & Bowie refused since it was Moby's festival, which was so cool of Bowie & Moby). Univeralis, if you are into hard rock, you should check out Moby's "Animal Rights" (1997) cause it's his venture into that arena when everyone else was getting into techno/electronic music he went all hardcore & surprised the hell outta everyone. It's quite good too. But it wasn't recieved too well back in '97 because it was such a major step away from what he usually does. There's a couple of hard rock techno songs on 'Everything is Wrong' as well. Kev, I do like that New Order cover on Hotel. When I first heard it I couldn't place it cause his version is so much mellower than NO's original. Once I figured out it was a NO cover I was duly impressed. Moby's earlier stuff like 'Go' is great as well. He's been around since the late '80s making dance music under one moniker or another. He has a retrospective comp. called "Moby Rare: The Collected B sides 1989-1993" which is quite interesting & has a 2nd cd of 'Go'remixes all mixed into an extended mix.

  25. Anna says Ebuzz, haha, hata :P Ah, I see now, Jill, thank you :) Augusts, you are MOG's official Moby guru. That video of Feeling So Real was very good. This & the live version of Go I linked to, is what I will be hearing now, right before I go out for drinks.

  27. Universalis says . . Augusts, i knew Moby probably since the start, i cannot tell exactly now not knowing as much as you but must well be more than 10 years indeed. And yes these hards he played surprised everybody including the metalloes ;-))
    Permalink posted 02/03/2007
  28. Augusts1 says Of course, since I'm now the Moby Guru as decreed by Queen Anna. Yes Univers, I'm not surprised it surprised the metallics. For a techno artist to go all hardcore threw everyone, even me, but I still liked it. I like his cover of 'That's When I Reach For My Revolver' which many artists have covered like Graham Coxon ex-member of Blur(who does some pretty heavy stuff on "Golden D" which that song is on).

  32. RGM says I dig his Bassist And her basses...cool 'P' Bass And Green Tranlucent Carvin....I don't even know if she is really any good. From what I've heard in his music, the bass sounds buried in the mix. But I haven't heard enough except the hits, She's a really cool looking bassist... \;^[/>
    Permalink posted 02/03/2007
  33. Augusts1 says Cool Univers, I'm in California, near San Francisco- Western Western Western Europe, LOL! RGM I haven't paid that much attention to M's bassist personally but I'd Imagine that being who he is he wouldn't have a half assed musician in his band. I know on his recordings that he plays all the instruments himself as well as producing, engineering & mixing his songs. So that might explain why the bass sounds buried since he does it all. He may be hiding the fact that he isn't that good of a bassist by burying it! But obviously

  37. Mike the Knife says Don't care much about Moby the person, but I go for some of the music - particularly the Brian Eno-isms of "We Are All Stars" and the instrumental track that was used over and over again during promotions for teen-skewed nighttime soaps on the now-defunct WB network and FOX ("Dawson's Creek," etc.).
