Ain't no sunshine under the covers

Posted 12 months ago

I just found out about this cover last night (better late than never). Simply put, Betty Wright is gloriously covering one of my all time favourite songs, Bill Withers' Ain't No Sunshine (I'm a walking cliche sometimes, what can I say).

Are you having a rainy, gloomy Sunday? Perfect.

Are you having a sunny one? Even better for point making.

Enjoy either way, and here's the magnificent original for good measure (do ignore the video):

Friendlily dedicated to M.

cpetersonart3, snow, aww! Haven't seen snow in a loooong time, maybe this year I'll be lucky. Glad you like the cover. Apparently, myriad artists have covered this song: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ain't_No_Sunshine I'm scared of what at least 1/3 sound like....

summer eyes, yup, just in time for Sunday :)

Nice, should work for ya all the way!

rainy and gloomy Sunday here, Anna, and a gloomy mog-day as well. mog streaming is giving me a few seconds of music followed by 5 seconds silence...if I time my napping just right...oh, never mind, I'll check back later...

Both versions sound great.  Being a walking cliché is tantamount to not being a weirdo.

My browser didn't let me listen to the whole song. Some kind of Vista/Firefox3 conspiracy, methinks. It started raining cats and dogs here about ten minutes after reading your post  .^_^,  ~I've been hexed!

Charles, yay! Can't argue with you there, they both floor me, sigh.

    I'd prefer to be a weirdo :o)

Kevin, I'm jel...I'd love some snow....

Glad you came back, Scot! That was a Long nap you took btw hehe :P

Gloomy day, and yet you are wearing your sunglasses...you weather anarchist you! (eh, I do it, too..). Betty is truly wonderful, glad you agree.

Chris :( Just let it buffer for some time...it's worth it, honestly! :)

Likewise ^, dear rei, it should work like that.

Oh no...In the name of the red button I un-hex you, I un-hex you! (how jinxy can I be, really...)

And B's seal of approval, too, I'm a happy girl today!

I realized that one should let songs load for a while...then the music comes our way. Patience, patience :)

Withers' version has been a melancholic fave for decades. Betty Wright brightens the original considerably & adds just as much soul to it, if not a bit more, than Bill. Thanks for sharing this.

    B42, like Joan's version too.

There's usually sunshine when you're involved, Anna - despite your occasional darker-than-thou attitude. Lovely cover. Just right for a quiet night after a sunny Sunday in Monterey-by-the-sea...

B, Joan's version pretty much leaves me breathless. Excellent vocal delivery. Thanks so much.

Uncle A, my thoughts exactly...no wonder we are related! My pleasure!

SOLAT, I've never heard that before! Thank you!

Sam, it was really foggy here the other day. I love fog. So mystifying, and makes everything spooky. Bet I can take you at paintball...(probably not).

Mikey, awww aren't you sweet! I bring both sunshine and darkness then? Oh no, I'm turning into the human equivalent of the British weather (just today it was snowing and then it was super sunny...)! hehe :)

Glad you think so...sounds like you had a lovely day. Hope your healing is going well.

Cody, yay! So happy you approve. I have her Platinum Collection. Dark side? Just say "Arctic Monkeys" if you do...
