They're Coming to Take Me Away Ha-Haaa!
-
Artist:
I was never afraid of monsters. You know what to expect of them. It's people that are the scary ones. People like you and me. You never know what lurks beneath the 'normal' facade. People invented monsters and not the other way round. It was our very own need to give the evil that we experienced in every day life a face that gave birth to all those deformed creatures.
You should really be careful during Halloween. Somewhere between rubber fangs and plastic chainsaws, a real monster can be hiding. Just an ordinary person. Except for the fact that his eyes sparkle with insanity and his teeth chatter with madness.
Everybody is a little crazy. Some humans are crazier than others (the lesser known Smiths' song). Halloween can bring out the worst in people. Don't get distracted by faux ghouls and powerless witches. Focus on the ordinary-looking ones.
Watch your back.
Control your breathing.
Look closer in the mirror.
Are your eyes sparkling?
Are your teeth chattering?
Are you one of them?
ARE THEY COMING TO TAKE YOU AWAY?!
HA-HAAA!

Great, now I can't go back to sleep.
marching in beat, somehow this feels good, the insesant noise, the inner voices, the contant clatter and thed overwelming paranoia... this was just enough to send me over the.... wahahahahhaha!
jeepers. decades of treating my paranoia down the drain.
great Halloween post, my dear. just the perfect way to usher my twilight here. très excellent choice of tune, it's practically punk.
i find it's the regular Joe/Jane in us all that is the craziest. can't wait for the other severed parts of your Halloween. (;
Dale hahahah looking under my bed never worked for me.....it's what's on the bed that will make you scream.....MWUAHAHHAHAH!
Indiana...that's the {crazy} spirit....welcome to the funny farm where life is beautiful all the time! Go, prosper, scare people to death....
poe ahahha I'm sorry....I couldn't hold back the truth anymore...
I didn't know the tune till recently my bf sang it to me {I don't want to know why}. It's paranoia perfection, and I can't get it out of my head. Which is OK, because it goes marvelously with all those voices there...
They will come soon...I promise they'll be scary...
"my bf"
Noooooooooooo!!!11!!
That was my scare for Halloween. Good one, Anna!
Kevbo, that's odd. None of my imaginary bfs seem to mind!
Pick up Dr. Demento's Greatest Hits for Halloween - blast it while you OD on sugar, and sugar water - or ok - more adult concoctions - when you wake (hungover from any of the above) play it again - alone in your room... that's the spirit... yeah...
It's true. People are seriously scary. And monsters can be so cute! Like the little ugly dolls. :) Though I must say I used to be deathly afraid of the ankle-grabber under the bed. Oh, and, love your Smith's reference.
nice Anna, now I'm nervous, cheers to you. this talk of ab-normals makes me think of this line in Fear of a Black Hat:
Nina Blackburn: They say it's the quiet ones that you have to watch out for.
Tasty Taste: And, if you've noticed, I ain't said shit for a couple minutes now.
van, I only found out about Dr Demento after I investigated about this song. What a character! Is sugarwater college talk for vodka-orange juice? If so, your instruction is my command ;)
sashasaur, monsters are adorable! There's nothing under the bed, honestly...I can give no guarantees for the closet though.....
Thank you :)
madrid, you made me go and search for that movie, never heard of it before. And now I HAVE to see it.
It's the crazy ones that have the good pills...but you better think the concept twice :)
Did your boyfriend grow up anywhere where he could have heard the radio station Z-100 (NYC) in the mid-early 80s? New York....New Jersey?
Nope. What up with that radio station? :)
They played this to no end around that time and my school bus driver would always listen to that station. Bleh! Anyway I was probably too busy trying to smoke a cigarette out the back window without him seeing to care.
Ooops! Funny how things that are brand new to one person can be overplayed to another.
See, fags are good for us ;)
Slowly am I crazy going...
Great song Anna. I've been acutely aware of thing that go bump in the night lately. I swear someone sneaks into my apartment just to make noise and freak me out. Maybe my place is haunted... Who knows.
Yes, they are (were)...but not anymore (for me).
wow, it was quiet all weekend and Anna steps into the game and wow, are you sure Anna's not the MOG owner here, I think she must get paid by the comment right?? LOL
Cheers, Daniel :)
Are you sure that that someone isn't yourself................
I can do with haunted places...haunted heads, however, are a different {horror} story...muwhahhaha!
hehe lak, it's alright, I'm doing enough for the both of us :)
Indiana, are you implying that I'm rambling too much? 'Cause that's....erm true ;P
Regardless ... you still won't fine me dangling my leg off the bed in the dark. 8)
But Erin....there's nothing there....honestly....
IT IS DAMN FUNNY! you will like it...
have you never seen poltergeist? that movie f'ed me up after i saw it at the age of 10...and forevermore.
Noted, madrid hehe! It's now on my movie list :)
Charley, I have, but making myself overexposed to horror movies since I was in elementary school made me immune pretty fast. :)
But what kind of monster lives inside Anna?
A Gorgon?
A Harpie?
or even a Teumessian Fox?
.
Mmmm, I'll think about it while I'm taking my dog for a walk...
'Come on Laelaps, lets go out...'
Oh goddess, I havent heard that song in decades! I remember listening to Dr. Demento on the radio & hearing it. Talk about a freakfest! And yes, people are the scariest.
So Have you played the" b" side to this song which is the same song backwards which to me made more sense.
!AAAHAAAH, YAWA,EM EKAT OT GNIMOC ER'YEHT

How strange to imagine the reaction of a wee lassie from Greece the first time she heard a bizarro American novelty hit from 40 years ago. If I'm not mistaken, it actually reached Number 1 on the U.S. pop charts, but didn't stay there long. People were freaked out about the track making fun of the mentally disabled - and started to complain to radio stations.
when are they coming, and what can I do in the mean time
Hey, I had not heard this for years - and this makes twice this week!
"Its the crazy ones that have the good pills"
why does that remind me of....well--ME! :)
Look at the ghoul I have looking out my windows...who needs the monster under the bed?!?
It seems she has those sparkling eyes you speak of...
Yeah, Dr. Demento was my intro to that song sometime as a kid in the 70s. Then when I got to collij I heard it WAY too many times as other people discovered it. Classic novelty tune though.

Anna says: "imaginary bfs"
What?? There are others? Injustice! Outrageous!
I challenge them all to duels at sunrise. I demand satisfaction!
But, I need to clarify something first. Are they boys who you imagine as your boyfriends or boys who imagine they're your boyfriends or boys who are completely imaginary in all respects? I have to choose weaponry accordingly. Who brings an imaginary knife to an imaginary gunfight?
Neill, I think it's a Lernaean Hydra ;)
Bring your doggy over some time, he can play with my pet Medusa!
Very glad I could refresh your memory, uncle A! I read (if I'm not mistaken) that Dr. Demento is doing his thing up to this day. Do you still listen to his shows?
cpetersonart3, I did, yes! It was spectacular....
Mikey, every bone in my body and every cell in my brain was entertained.
Umm...really? Now there is yet one more scary human quality...lack of humour, I believe they call it.
Kevin...any day now....you can knit your own customized straitjacket!
Scot, whoah! Manic video....love it with the song!
Amber, my god. You really need to post a Haunted series for Halloween.....please, gothly please!
Now, about those pills...... ;)
Kevbo, what is a "collij"?
I have every right to be an imaginary slag!
I'll go with boys that I imagine them to be my boyfriends, sounds like the safest choice. I think it's fair to warn you that they are all 20-30 year old, have bangs, are British, and wear skinny jeans, in case any of the above plays a part in your choice of imaginary weaponry.
This might be an apporpriate place to ask a about a song I heard in passing but didn't catch the name of.
The words were about a kid who would go to sleep and kept insisting that there was something under his bed.
It went something like:
"Oh mom, oh mom, there's something under my bed.
Oh mom, ho mom, it even tapped me on my head."
Of course the parents don't believe him.
But the end of the song has the singer screaming:
"SHOW ME YOU CARE! Ah, ah!"
Can anyone name that tune?
collij - (coll-idge) English. noun. A deliberate misspelling of the word 'college' written thusly so to mock one's education presumably achieved at an institution, university or place of higher learning to which the generic name may be applied. Used most recently in an officious sounding definition at Anna's MOG page. (2008).
lak, I have no idea :( I did various google searches but no dice. I hope we can figure it out, 'cause I feel it will be a fun song :)
Thank you for enlightening me, Kev! I wish you best of luck in your imaginary battles....
Here's a version of the song by Lard! It's equally paranoid!
Lard ~ They're Coming To Take Me Away
Oh dear oh my. That was insane, loved it! Thanks so much for posting it :)
You're welcome!
