Cacophony > Euphony

Album:Gypsy Punks: Underdog World Strike

Track:
Sometimes singers stumble into notes instead of singing on them.
Turn their back on enunciation.
Treat melody harshly.
Or laugh at harmony's face.
And it can work. Wrong can become right. And it's that very wrongness that enchants us.
So, who's your favourite 'bad' singer?
If I may present mine, Gogol Bordello's Mr. Eugene Hütz :

Honourable mention , Cacofonix, the bard, from Asterix comics ;)

PS The song in the video is the song in the yellow button, can't upload tracks right now! :)
Eugene is too busy being himself to worry about the rules. See him in his movie, too, that being "Everything Is Illuminated".
Oh yeah, being Eugene must take up a lot of time ;)
I heard about that film relatively recently. I should find it!
Mr. Henry Rollins:
Gogol Bordello? Any friend of Madonna's is a friend of yours, yeah? ;)
I love Shaun Ryder's wailing.
Happy Mondays - Kinky Afro (Live in Rio)
Oh yes, Mr. Pyro; he sure can spit out words like bullets with no remorse :)
Fluxy, well played and a sweet arse video to boot!
Erm..colour me out of the loop :o
Glad you like it. One of my favourite songs, that.
Your heroine Madonna did a turn with GB at last year's Live Earth concert...cue with pompous speech at start.
I'm now in the loop, thanks! Aww, he has sympathy for the elders, that's endearing ;)
After all this time, I still laugh at Live Earth's concept btw. "The concerts for a climate in crisis". YES! LET'S USE TONES OF ELECTRICITY, INCREASE THE EARTH'STEMPERATURE AND UNLEASH MORE DIOXIDE INTO THE ATMOSPHERE!
Is my fur coat back from the dry cleaner's yet? 'Cause I'm headlining a protest against animal testing after this.

Heh, heh - that says it all!
William Shatner?
this guy really screws up the english language, if it wasn't for the subtitles I'd have no idea what was being said!
love these guys...
even in english I have no idea what he's talking about, but you sure can dance to it!
Mike Ness from Social Distortion was always cool, but....
TOM WAITS.
You won't be surprised to see me agree with you on Mr Hutz...
I'm SO tempted to say Eilart Pilarm. However with this guy there is no wrong becoming right. The whole thing is just wrong and painful.
For those who don't know who he is, he's a guy with some mental issues that does and Elvis impersonation.
I beg your pardon! You enjoy raucous rattlers?!? It's funny no one mentioned the epitome of hoarse pronunciation: Mr Robert Zimmerman!!!
I also have a fondness for this Froggy: Arthur H.
And of course, I'm in love with this lady:
Daniel is so SO right...
I have my furry moments, Fluxy :o)
Amber but but but...he is the rocketman! :) Is it because he is hiiiiiiiiigh? ;o)
Heath, how great you rolled with Waits. I just recently discovered his music and I'm already in love with it :)
David, HOW DARE YOU! HE IS A WONDERFUL TROUBADOUR!
I'm gonna ban you hard, oh yes I am ;P
Joxy...no...but I can fake it ;)
Pat, you're not alone in this, my friend! :)
Neill, noooice! I thought you'd go with Sex Pistols...you proved me wrong..and I like that. it doesn't happen to me often ;)
Stefan, I don't know that guy. I can't decide if I should investigate or not...
Michael, why yes I do! Even mumblers, every now and then :) Mr. Dylan...right! Your froggy isn't bad either.. And of course you're in love with her, she's a goddess!
van, I was wondering how come no one mentioned Johnston yet, well played! He is right, but that blonde girl's voice is SO wrong.
I can't listen to the button song or the vid so I'll have to come back later.
I wonder how many sweaty hippies the gypsy punks converted at Bonnaroo this weekend?? Mog on!
I would have to go with Tom Waits as well. Give me a drink and a live album by him and my night is set
Captain Beefheart:
Here's an item a little bit off the beaten track, Claire Waldoff singing “Raus Mit Den Männern Aus Dem Reichstgag,” a 1920s recording of a Friedrich Hollaender song from the second of four CDs included in the photo book Cabaret Berlin: Revue, Kabarett and Film Music between the Wars, published by edel CLASSICS, Hamburg 2005. I offer this because her voice resembles a chainsaw.
woo-hoo. give it up for some Anna love for the Hutz! i co-recommend Everything Is Illuminated along with everyone, it's a good movie. a little movie called Wristcutters has one main character completely inspired by Eugene Hutz - but it's not so good so watch only when you have patience.
since the hoarse-voiced have been covered, i thought i'd mention others (these are not my faves by any means!):
Courtney "flat notes" Love
Astrud "off-key" Gilberto and also "off-key" Nico
Meg "the sister" White and Eleanor "the sister" Friedberger
Srsly, how 'bout Isaac Brock from Modest Mouse....his voice can irritate the most patient person but it just works somehow.
Richard Butler, lead singer of the Psychedelic Furs:
Oww, uncle A :(
Blair mwuahhahaha sweat floods!
Cheers, Kevin! One more for Mr. Waits! :)
incurablyerin, thank you for your contribution, lady :)
Charles, that was a great song. You are so right, her voice does resemble a chainsaw. The way she handles and delivers it is very special. That must be some photo book you got there....
poe woo hoo! No more Miss Sober-headed Gogol Bordello fan ;) Thank you for the cinematic recommendations, as well as for the cacophonic ones (Courtney Love, how come I didn't think of that, yes!) : *
Tyler, true true, added to the list :)
Mikey, yyyeeessss.....(BTW one of my favourite band names ever!) : *
Adding one I think it should be here:
Tom Waits indeed. Also, Wreckless Eric and, on occasion, Neil Young.
I'm glad no one said "Yoko Ono" :)
Thank you for the cacophonic contributions, Pekka! Of course nobody did, we are quality people; deep down inside ;)
