WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

The ears work in mysterious ways...

Posted 7 months ago

I don't like country music.

And I don't like Lily Allen.

So why on earth am I enjoying this so much?!

Video instead of audio because it's a very cool one:

Could it be a symptom of swine flu?

Oink oink!

The same happened for me on that Alfie song.  Not even Alfie is in my collection.   Do I lose credibility points now?

The supreme indie court must know which one the Alfie song is before it decides to deduct points.

Because Lily Allen doesn't give a FUCK what you think you like!

Best pop star album since...oh I don't know, pick something arbitrary before Britney.

I'm far from an expert on country music, but I think the song has strong country elements.

If not, all the better, half my confusion will be gone ;)

This isn't country. It's got kind of a two-step beat and the video trappings are country of course, but I would never call this country.

    Plus, I like it. There's reason #2.

I want to be in this video. Anna, please tell me you've heard her song "Fag Hag" with a hook that goes, "I could be your fag hag and you could be my gay." hahahaha!

Misstee comes correct. The magic of Greg "The Bird and The Bee" Kurstin is all over the current Lily Allen album which I like considerably more than her first. Sorry, Anna. It's true. Lily (enhanced by Kurstin) has produced a very fine album. BTW, I'm shocked - shocked, I tell you! - that you have not wholeheartedly embraced the supa-catchy, dead-clever Lily single "The Fear."

If I may... in my opinion the Kursten factor might be a bit much -- kinda like when you tip the dsalt shaker just a bit more than intended. This one, while fun for a few listens left me thirsty, whereas Allright Still still has some staying power.

Sounds good to me.  It's better than other stuff that I've heard from her. It definitely has a country rhythm but I would not call it a country song. So, I think your liking it makes sense.

  24. Fasted7 says

The "luded drummer" as DS said is a hoot.

Why does the only band member who seems excited look like John Denver- with hair extensions?

Period video set aside, I agree with Trend and TBoom: this really isn't a country song (thankfully, as if there are two things I hate they are Indian food and country music)- though it does have a hint of that ever-so-annoying "twang thang" going on. But just a hint and, if you don't look at the video you may not even suggest it's country.

But, for Lily Allen, it's a pretty likeable tune. Gotta hand it to her. And the lyrics are kinda clever- more so than many other current poptarts, uh, popsters, uh, pop stars.

Fasted 7 - I really like Indian food. What's your beef with south asian cuisine?

    Permalink posted 05/06/2009

Asian I like- but not Indian.

And my wife loves the stuff: curry, saffron and cilantro... ugh! Please waterboard me instead!

I think it has to do with the fact it is a story about a woman who cant get satisfaction in bed. I think she wrote this after dating me.

Anna- I think you classify that in the genre of hick-hop with a splash of electronica-country.

The lyrics to this are actually pretty funny. Something about lying in the wet spot in bed & spent ages giving head, how can you not like that? And I HATE Lily, she's such a slag!

capndad, I actually had to wiki that. And you're right, the similarity is striking!

Neill, makes sense, she looks like a girl that knows her way around a horn...

Darla, noooo, not you, too! Oh well, at least I don't feel lonely now :)

Andrea, one of us one of us! Definitely overrated.... this song aside :)

Tara.... I had no idea what those two words meant... till I read Mike's comment (and now Mike will not love me anymore).

Mark, I guess I didn't phrase it well. I didn't mean to say that it's 100% country, but that it has very very vivid and strong country elements.

Of course you like it. There's a reason we call you Hipster Spice!

Brittany, me, too! We should be in the place of the two backing singers. I can't wait to do the kicking dance routine! Oh yes, I have. I always wanted to be a fag hag when I grew up ahahhahahahha

cpetersonart3, I had to look that up in wiki, too. From what I read there, I hope not...

Mike, ahhhhhhh! So your friend produced the album, that makes so much sense! I fear that I'm about to love The Fear, too.... it's mostly her phrasing that bugs me, to be honest.

T Jay, I see what you mean, although I tried to block out Alright Still, and thus I can't really know. Reason for that is the annoying phrasing mentioned above...

TBoom, with you on that one. See, if I'm going down, I'll make you all confess and take you with me.... mwuahahhaha!

Fasted7, John Denver with hair extensions... I wish I didn't have the mental image of that!

I love Indian Food, but I'm on board on the country train. It was mostly the banjo, rhythm, and the way the guitar sounds at times that gave me the strong country feeling. But hey, if you guys don't think it's very close to that genre, I have one less thing to feel guilty about :)

Clever lyrics, indeed. If I was a lad, I'd never sleep with her tho. Who wants their shortcomings finding their way into a pop song?

Kevin, that ^ should make you a bit wiser. Next time you'll decide to seduce a pop star, go for one that writes in metaphors.

MusicRX, is that college talk for "country"? ;)

Uncle A, I know, they make me chuckle. And then I remember that she wrote the song for Kevin, and close my ears. TMI.

Sam! That's the meanest thing you've ever said to me!

Anna, hick-hop is actually a new genre, but I made the other one up. Hick-hop is the convergence of hip-hop elements with country overtones.
