Bigmouth strikes yet again

Posted about 4 years ago
Many people can testify that in June, I passed by Gossip's gig posters in London and I repeatedly mumbled "I hate The Gossip". Fast forward to a week or so ago. I'm at a film festival partay, and I hear this song blowing up the speakers in a fantastic way. I enjoy it tremendously, and next morning, I google some of the lyrics I caught. Result? The Gossip - Standing in the Way of Control. I got served. The moral of this story? Never say never, fight the hype, stand in the way of control and enjoy this song the way it deserves to be enjoyed.

  4. Spike says Often one's most cherished musical experiences happen when one realizes that almost everyone else doesn't get it, almost everyone else doesn't perceive the beauty in a song, or almost everyone else loves a song that is actually pretty lame. I like how here the lyrics describe how you reacted to the song.

  7. Anna says And I love Pat! W0000t! You raise valid points, Charles, I cannot agree with ya more. I am now proudly standing in the way of control! Pimpy........I bet it's Toxic! David, you've known for a year and you didn't tell me?!

  10. gympumpkin says "You can’t expect me to function properly in an environment full of British accents, bangs, All Stars and skinny jeans…" Or me!!! Great song. I've recently tried to listen to stuff I don't think I'll like, just to say I actually listened to it before writing it off. Yesterday was Blake Lewis' album. Um, yeah. I don't think I'll be putting that one on again. Of course, like your situation, maybe I'll hear one of those songs one day when I don't expect it and actually like it. You never know.

  16. SA says Yeah, I know how that works. It's better to come to that realization by yourself, instead of hearing a song, saying to friends "I like this!", "oh, I thought you didn't like [insert band]"? And apparently, that's an anecdote worthy of re-telling over, and over, and over, and...

TylerDurden says that's what I said about Bullet for My Valentine....the name threw me off, now I'm hooked....I also have been served at parties where I jam out, and scream over the music "I love this song" and one of my friends will correct me, "we listened to this last night and you called it trash"......oops

  21. brandarius says Oh yeah! No one ever believes this is The Gossip around here. The Gossip we know around here was totally a sweaty punk band that sounded better the longer you drank....but now I can't walk into a club these days without hearing this song. Always makes me giggle. I felt this way about Gwen Stefani once, but my musical opinion really didn't change. I just stopped "hating" her.

  23. Anna says Andrea hahaha we are, after all, (mostly) human ;) You're a better elf than I am for doing that! Exactly, you never know, I love musical surprises. David, yes, a puppy with fangs and claws ;) Uh oh...you've provoked my brother to EMCD me yet again ;) Also, Mike, never say never when it comes to beer! W00t! Glad to hear that, Santa :) ahhaha Stefan, yup, the discovery was mine, all mine, though I couldn't help to share it with you guys :) lampgirl, I was thinking that I should investigate them more, too. The look is spreading here as well, yayyyyyy! ;) Minus the accents, of course. Will hahahhaha fine, spread salt in my wounds, as we say in Greek :P ahahaha Tyler, I always say that happens in parties, stays in parties and doesn't leave the room :) This band is fucking rubbish! Or not? :) Joxy, you British imp and disorienting microenvironment you :P brandarius, "sweaty punk band that sounded better the longer you drank", I kinda feel bad for getting to know them only just now ;) Club + SITWOC? Finger lickin' good combination! Micki, I am under the impression that Fabian is a rock star to be!!!
