Laid

This is how "she only cums when she's on top" became a politically correct thing to shout out loud (though I'm sure it will get you arrested in some countries). A relationship, the sex, obsession, "messing around with gender roles", the passion, "fighting with kitchen knives"; it's all here. How much more can you ask for, really :)

_This bed is on fire with passionate loveThe neighbours complain about the noises abovebut she only cums when she's on topMy therapist said not to see you no moreshe said you're like a disease without any cureshe said I'm so obsessed that I'm becoming a bore, oh noAh, you think you're so pretty_James' daisy never ceased to smell sweetly.

  1. jameson says uh oh, this one has that tried and true formula.... Greek goddess + Sexually suggestive blog title = 1000 hits by noon. Great song, though. It's funny because this song was only a modest hit around these parts, even as far as one-hit wonders go. But every time you step into a bar, a cover band is playing this song....always. That's both a good thing and a bad thing....

  2. sommer face says When this song was overplayed back in the day, I hated it. Now, I love the song.

  3. Anna says Jameson, nah, this is how I make my indie anthems posts, I use the song title as the post title. Glad you like the song. James are not one-hit wonders!!! sommer face, heavy rotation does destroy songs. Sigh. Luckily, we can appreciate those that are really good as time goes by.

_Those who feel the breath of sadness, sit down next to me those who find they’re touched by madness, sit down next to me those who find themselves ridiculous, sit down next to me in sympathy_ (from wiki: Sit Down's lyrics were written in Autumn 1988 as a thank you to two women who greatly inspired Tim Booth - author Doris Lessing and singer Patti Smith)

  13. I am says This song and "That's Entertainment" by the Jam are, by far, my favorite songs to play and sing with my friends. All acoustic though, could never electrify either of them. Thanks for puting this tune in my head for a week. Anna, has anyone ever told you, "Your a vector for infection." Right back at you babe.

  14. levek says I have always thought James was one of the 10 best bands ever and Tim Booth one of the 10 best singing voices.

  15. Iren says I recall the tune, I even have it in y iTunes.... the funny thing about James is that when I got to Sweden in 2001, I started seeing all of these albums that the had recorded and that was one of the incidents that opened my eyes to the fact that a lot of act can go on and have careers in Europe when the US Pop Music has forgotten about them... and then shock of shocks, there are bands that never made a dent in the USA, who can make a good living touring in Europe... btw when I saw the post title I knew it would be about James...

  16. juepucta says That album is still one of my faves ever. If you ever feel adventurous check out "Wah Wah". It was a sister album to Laid. Basically, Eno took all the tapes from the jams that eventually became the songs for Laid and made this trippy ambient thing - except for one track that surfaced later reworked (in their best-of comp IIRC), nothing is really recognizeable. Just as good as what vintage Eno, Zooropa/Passengers U2 and even Kid-A/Amnesiac Radiohead. It has these middle eastern flavours running throughout. Again, vintage ambient Eno. Aural wallpaper of the good kind. -G.

  17. Dale says I was kidding sis, since I was older than age 3 when that song was on the radio, I knew exactly what it meant. I do appreciate you posting not only the song "Sit Down", but its inspirations as well.

  18. juepucta says Man that post above of mine has some nonsensical typos... Also, the last album tehy put out before the split and Booth going solo and making Batman cameos is REALLY good. One of their best, in my opinion - album's called Pleased To Meet You. -G.

  19. Anna says You were jamming to The Jam, eh? :) Both songs are solid choices. Ha! Nope, you took my vector-infector compliment virginity :) Thank you for the song! :) Rejean, I, too, have been loving them for years. The only James song that I fail to take seriously is Sometimes. The reason is that I used to have a boyfriend (back when I was 19), who dedicated the song to me, and especially the chorus "sometimes, when I look deep into your eyes, I swear I can see your soul"; and the he cheated on me. I guess he didn't like what he saw hahahhahahah :) Oh, Eric, that happens with many European bands. Luckily, they can, as you said, make a living out of Europe alone. I also have to say that they are great great great live. I was very happy when Booth rejoined. And I'm also happy that James was the first thing that came to your mind when you saw the title! Bro, I know, I was just looking for an excuse to post more James ;) juepucta, Wah Wah might be the only James album I don't have (I'll have to investigate my CD - and cassettes, yup- collection, which is scattered all over the place). Thank you for the recommendation. It sounds intriguing. I'd give myself a stroke if I tried to pick a favourite amongst Pleased To Meet You and Laid! Did you like Booth's Bone? I can't wait for their new album. Early 2008, baby!

Thankies :) David, you know, insects' genders have always been a mystery to me. That could easily be a King Bee, for all I know ;) Sunshine, haha I always know that I got very drunk if I don't remember what kind of music the DJ was spinning the night before :)

  27. Augusts1 says I have to say that James came immediately to mind when I saw your title as well niece! I have one of their cds around here somewhere. I was never a huge fan although I enjoyed their songs when I heard them. There just were so many other bands I was obsessive over at the time they were popular like Catherine Wheel, MBV, Blur, Curve, Lush, Pixies, Nirvana, The Breeders, PJ Harvey, The Soup Dragons, Happy Mondays, The Charlatans UK, Chapterhouse, etc. So I was pretty occupied, to say the least!

  34. Mike the Knife says I know I'm tardy in commenting, but this is my favorite James song, bar none. Whenever I hear it, I always think that it could be me singing those lyrics. Let's just say that this one is just a little too close to home.
