Editors covering Cure's Lullaby

Posted over 2 years ago
After reading dear *"Neill's":http://mog.com/Neill/blog_post/114269#write-comment* post, I knew that this would be a great cover. And it is. It has respect towards the original song, vivid Editors' characteristic sonical elements and Tom Smith's voice is reaching new haunting levels. I simply adore it.

  5. Anna says Well, it's very nice of you to post it (especially since it's made out of 4 CDs!) :) Joxy, I am trying to redeem the honour I lost yesterday, (I really shouldn't be allowed to MOG on tsipouro). Oh, wait, I don't really feel shame (I lack the relative glands), so, scratch that ;)

  14. juepucta says You know that BBC comp scares me BUT that cover of the Cure is mindblowingly good. They manage to be respectful while at the same time not rehashing the old riffs (311 failed miserably at this not long ago). Anyway, two bands i love. Thanks Anna. -G.

  15. LD50 says Interesting...not as good as the original but a damn good stab at it, and I think The Editors are one of the few bands that could get away with it. I'm still listening to "An End Has A Start" on heavy rotation too, it just keeps getting better. Cure and PJ Harvey in the space of 24 hours?...seems like your "inner goth" is poking her head out of the closet a lot lately, eh, Anna? Keep it up...mope on, mope on! ;P

  17. Rawkkiddoh says I was late to get on to the Editors band wagon but Lizzie has made me a believer. I still love their cover of Feel Good Inc by the Gorillaz, this one would be a close second

  18. dik426 says That qualifies a good cover! That voice was chilling. Loved it. (like the original too, but of course.) Its nice that they kept the interplay between the keyboard and guitar lines intact. Always was my favorite part of the song. I actually am on the fence a bit with the Editors and this cover might have pushed over to their side.

  19. wouldriotforless says MMMMM..... I've been a Cure fan for years. To the point of obsesively collecting every thing they have put out on lp or 7 inch. I usely don't listen to Cure covers becuse they end up bad! (311 doing love song?) However I liked this one quite a bit! Another good Cure cover you should look into.... The Shroud-Sinking :)

  21. Anna says You’re welcome, starlite :) Neill, ah OK, gotcha now :) Enjoy the ultimate yumminess, my Philly Goddess :* G, I couldn’t have said it better. You’re very welcome! Conor, of course they can, they are oozing talent! Well, you know, somepeople have skeletons in their closet. I have disobedient goths ;) Kevin, you are lucky to have her Lizzieness as an EMCD :D meko, you lucky sod :) dik, that voice always reminds me that I used to be a teenager, if you get my drift ;) Agreed, that interplay is a precious sonic spot. Every time you feel you’re on the fence with Editors, Marilyn Manson kills a kitten… Jonathan, “MMM” was my first word when I heard it, too… Glad you fancy it. And thanks for the tip :) Mikey, always a pleasure to feed your Editors fan needs :)

  25. aphriza says Startlingly good - this coming from someone who's never really taken the Editors seriously. The original was pretty much perfect - Robert Smith's voice being so playful and whispery just made it that much creepier. But if you're going for full frontal creepiness, these guys are pretty much nailing it. Thanks.
