ok, consider me addicted to MOG.i'm listening to Thirteen by Big Star and thinking about how my new rec comes out on February 13th and it has 13 songs on it.... i'm nervous about that and scared and totally going through crazy shit right now but i'm listening to music and feeling hopeful.... Alex Chilton. oh yeah. i first heard Big Star when i lived in Halifax, Nova Scotia, about 14 years ago... i remember walking around on my hardwood floors just pacing, and listening... and feeling good cause there's so much hopefullness in a Big Star song.xoAH

  1. 1234chainsaw says Isn't there quite often desperation and torment behind those sweet harmonies and jangly guitars (especially on Third/Sister Lovers)?

  2. kristiana says Hhhm, Amy, I don't suppose you're originally a Maritimer? Like, a shrunken-head maritimer....? If you don't know what I mean by that, disregard, lol.

  8. kristiana says Ah, good stuff! The good ol' days, for sure. Everyone was so optimistic when the Explosions first started! Still a great scene. I don't remember Drop Pop Girl in particular, but I didn't move to Hali until '98, so I wasn't familiar with everything. Played a couple of shows way back at Cafe Ole.... You know Matt Kimber?

  9. Amy Honey says i remember Cafe Ole, the greatest lil' all ages venue in Hali! Matt Kimber sounds familiar, but i can't place him... did he wear glasses, like Buddy Holly style?

  13. dermahrk says Amy - BS lover! (uhhh...Big Star, of course). Yes, their stuff is classic. So have you heard the new one with Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow and, assuming so, whadja think? It's not the same, but there is some good tunage on there.
