One evening of sophomore year at college, I had my dorm room to myself as my best friend and roommate Colin was in the library studying. Instead of working on more insipid pre-calculus homework, I took a well-deserved break and turned on Colin's television, as I didn't have one of my own at the time. As I surfed the channels, I stumbled upon MTVu and watched the most amazing music video I had ever seen by any artist. This music video was by an Icelandic band called Sigur Ros, and it was for their song called "Glosoli". The song itself is what I consider a musical masterpiece. The music video takes it to a whole new level, using evocative imagery and a sweeping, simple story to create a memorable and nothing short of brilliant 6-minute artistic creation.

Here is the music video for "Glosoli":

Also, check out the equally mesmerizing music video to another song I consider a musical masterpiece, titled "Saeglopur":

Be prepared to be blown away!!! =)

Sigur Ros is amazing in their commitment to uncompromising artistic expression. It's not surprising that their vids are incredible as well. I really liked the first one w/the kids flying at the end.

Only wish more musicians would make artistic vids instead of the commercial crap that most put out these days. Le sigh!

When news came out in 2003 that Dixie Chicks lead singer Natalie Maines said to a London audience, "Just so you know, we're ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas", many country music fans and music industry experts turned their backs on the band. The band's future looked uncertain until they released their 2006 single 'Not Ready To Make Nice', a smart country-rock anthem that addressed the public outcry which surrounded them for so long. The song became a hit with the radio stations that played it. Shortly thereafter, they released their 2006 effort called "Taking the Long Way", a superb album detailing the trio's personal and public struggles after their downfall. Thankfully, the album has sold very well, becoming one of the best-selling albums of 2006. They recently won 5 Grammys, proving to their ex-fans and critics that great music conquers all and shouldn't be judged by a particular artist's political stance.

Before they released their latest single and album, they released a music video for their song 'Top Of The World' from the 2002 album "Home". Here is the video in all its eerie but excellent splendor!

The Chick's brand of generic (country) rock won't carry them far. They're enjoyin' bein' the flavor of the month, who can blame them? Get it while you can.

Can't say that I am a fan of theirs, so I don't care how many Grammys they won, it still isn't going to get me to listen to their music!

Well, being that they've been famous and in the news for the better part of this decade, I wouldnt exactly call them the flavor of the month, even before this years grammy's, theyve experienced success that most bands will never even dream of.

Im not a dixie chick fan, and i dont listen to their music.... but im happy for em.. more power to em.

I wasn't into hard rock until I heard the Foo Fighters' song "Best of You", which blew all of my expectations of the hard rock genre. I often equated hard rock with pointless, screaming metal, which was quite the mistake on my part. The smart vocalist for the Foo Fighters never screams for the sake of doing so, instead using screaming as a way to convey powerful, evocative emotion. The music video for "Best of You" is all at once emotionally resonant, aggressive, and edgy. It will redefine your view of not only the hard rock genre but also the Foo Fighters themselves. They certainly got the best of me and I will never be the same! Long live hard rock!

Yes! The Foo Fighters use the screaming in a very good way. Only when necessary to convey the emotion of the lyrics. Dave Grohl is a great musical talent. Open minds never hurt anyone.

Are we far enough away from the event now to say that the Foo Fighters are better than Nirvana? I sure hope so.....
