THE MUSIC BLOGGING HIVE MIND

Christmas is coming

Posted about 1 year ago
Yes, it's that time of year again. The tree is up and the lights are lit. Across the world global CO2 production has been raised as power stations try to keep up with the demand from the latest christmas decorations and global deforestation ensues as families decide "wouldn't it be nice to have a real tree this christmas?"
As we count down over the next 3 and a half weeks thoughts turn to evenings beside a log fire, back in the days before local government declared your house to be in a smoke free zone, and watching the robins hopping around in the snow in the garden. Of course now the robins get killed by next door's cat and the garden has been reclaimed by the council for land redevelopment and is being converted into a block of luxury apartments on sale shortly for roughly twice the value of the house you currently live in. As for the weather, expect tropical storms and heatwaves.
At least we still have chestnuts to roast...

  2. Wahiawa786 says Funny you should mention the "Peter Schickele of Christmas music," Bob Rivers, I suggested to "Joad" that she find Bob or Dr. Demento for some Christmas-bashing tunes. My brother-in-law was looking for "The Restroom Said 'Gentlemen" a few years ago, so it started me looking for "Yule be dissed" music, too. My favorite is "Police Stop My Car" because it addresses those folk who mix alcohol with gasoline outside of the fuel tank. Then there's the subversive "I Saw Daddy Kissing Santa Claus," which sounds like "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" at the north pole. So get in your "Rusty Cehvrolet" and do the "Jingle Bells" bark as you dodge traffic-strangled shopping malls.
